I enjoy going to bakery a lot and always exploring new bakeries. I know Bourke Street Bakery is actually quite famous and have several shops so I decided to give it a go. Beef brisket pie 💜💜💜💜 The crust is very nice. You can taste beef brisket pieces and they go so well with mushrooms. Taste even better with ketchup. Creme brûlée 💜💜💜💜💜 It is very VERY nice. The ginger taste is not strong. Goes SO SO SO well with the tart. The tart itself is a bit thick to make you can taste the tart. Lemon curd tart 💜💜💜 It is filled with curd but it is too lemony to me. I think it’s the same tart pastry as the creme brulee so it’s alright. Pork sausage roll 💜💜💜 I actually expect a lot but then it disappointed me. Tbh the sausage is juicy and nice. The roll is also ok. However they couldn’t combine well together. Olive sourdough 💜💜💜💜💜 (not jn picture) One of my favourite sourdough. If you go to the bakery, there is no way you not buying it. SO JUST BUY IT. The sourdough is not hard at all. Olives give very nice taste to it. Almond croissant 💜 (not in picture) It really disappointed me. I’m not sure is it an accident but what. The pastry is bad. The filling is bad. The toppings is also bad. I almost couldn’t finish it. My standard: 1 star: the worst, not worth eating 2 star: bad because of either taste or portion or not worth it 3 star: it’s ok but I’m not going back 4 star: it’s good and I might be going back 5 star: I love it and I will definitely go again

Ok, take it easy...its my opinion. Yes, I ran a big, fancy bakery chain way back when. Yes, iggys has forever changed my life. Yes, expectations started high when I first hit this place, probs b4 you started tending to your own vitals. No matter how many times u co vince myself to return, this place disappoints. Today, I was walking by at 730am...can you imagine a stale croissant at 730am? I was sadder than a penguin who can't find their mate when they return to the melting ice cap. The coffee worked, hence the 2*. The pies and rolls are famous...well, if you like your pies and rolls soaking in their happy juice, then go for it. But hey, try it...you'll only be spending a few bits, and you will then have your own views to share here, to about z.f.g. peeps

Visited the original bourke street bakery in bourke street. Very small place around the corner, but very beautiful exterior with the plants around the top floor, and very quiet corner to enjoy the good food. Ginger brulee tart is truly life changing, the first bite almost made me cry, it was so tasty I didn't want it to finish and at the same time, I just want to finish it, so that I can move on with my life. Pork fennel sausage was fresh and noteworthy but ginger brulee takes all the credit. Each one is handmade, flame thrown on the top to get the crispy layer on top. The staffs are super friendly and helpful and shared the stories of the places. There are recommended foods, this one is to die for, non-negotiable.

Disgusting, racist environment (server a young woman with light hair). Better food at Baker Bleu, pretty average croissants, pastries and bread (customer 10+ times).

Event that occurred at 3-3.10pm on 17 Sept 2025:

While still outside, I first came to in to ask if I could order while carrying my little puppy who has separation anxiety - as the counter was so close to the door. They declined which was not a problem as I understood, so I tied my puppy outside away from the vicinity of the bakery. To clarify this was not the issue, it was what subsequently occurred.

As expected, he cried and barked while I waited in line. Then once I got to the front of the line and was standing inside to wait to be served, a white woman behind me walked in and was served first. The server was very aware I was there as it was the same one who declined me ordering from doorway while holding my puppy. I also note another woman has parked her 3 dogs right at the doorway but I had the courtesy to leave space for the hygiene of the food. Clearly double standards if you’re Brown-Skinned than if you’re White-Skinned and get preferential treatment to cut in line. This 2025, courtesy is key.

Of course I left after all this, because what a waste of my time.

It’s quite pathetic service considering I’ve been often purchasing baked items here since last year. Obviously will never go back and to be honest the baked foods and bread are not the best, definitely better out there in Sydney and in Surry Hills too. 3 star food. 0 star service.

Disappointing that I’ve even brought people here on occasion and recommended it. Definitely will be recommending any other place in Surry Hills going...

I don’t really like their food, they don’t serve that well as in comments. Small house, hard to wait in line, the menu is too complicated. Mostly, they don’t know how to welcome costumer. Edited: When we saw the ''local guides'' recommend this bakery and it has so high rates so we gave it a try. First, the store by the outlook is quite old for me but it was ok, until we didn't know where to queue 'cause the main door is so small, I think just fit for AN ADULT, it was still ok. Till we were about to order, one of the girl that works for that store told us to LEAVE until we order and we didn’t know there was a lady still waiting before us, we did say sorry to the lady but the girl showed her angry so obviously to us although we said we know what we’re gonna order😡😡 like she wanted to say that we waist her time for standing so long but we didn’t, we’ve just arrived🥵🥵. Btw, my friend ordered a tart, she said it was disgusting like they made it 2 days already and then just warm it up + she ordered a mocha, she couldn’t even finish it, it was like just water and ice, a bit of coffee. REALLY???🤬🤬🤬 do u know how to make mocha r ‘cause of the tax to rent so high so u hafta cut off Sth in food, actually, FOR ME the service was so bad, maybe the worst I’ve ever tried, hafta wait 4 agest, and be yelled by a worker in that store, they didn’t welcome customers. EVEN FOOD COULD’N HELP THEM TO SURVIVE, Anw, the time we’ve arrived there, I though Sth wrong already’cause. There weren’t many people as in comments said so u know if it’s bad r not, and we came in during lunch around 1-2, it supposed to have a lot of customers but...
