I am a huge fan of bagels and ate them aplenty in New York and on a recent trip to Israel. So when I hear somewhere selling bagels, I’ll be there. I’ve had Brooklyn Boy often, previously at markets, in their recently closed Circular Quay store and also at other cafes that stock the product. Brooklyn Boy have made a business pivot and reopened their wholesale bakery to a front of store retail in Marrickville in a factory space. Whilst it’s described as “drive-through”, technically it isn’t since it’s not like McDonalds where you place your order and drive right through and grab your order. It’s more of a car park where you can stop out front and grab your order and hop back in the car. If they do a drive through option, it wasn’t obvious to me. Selling a good range of flavours and runs of cream cheese to go and make at home or have one made up for your brekkie. The bagels are authentic, boiled and baked the traditional way. Whether it be plain, blueberry (one of my favourites), mixed seed (or their “everything”), onion, pumpkin, sesame, poppy seed or another of my personal favourites - pumpernickel. They also sell challah (Jewish brioche) and pretzels. There are also 285-mil tubs of different varieties of cream cheese such as plain, jalapeno, lox with capers, or garlic and chive. See the website where you can order online (with a minimum spend) and even some big packs to make at home are also available. They also do takeaway coffees, using beans by Little Marionette. Be sure to get there early as they...
Read moreWhen I first found this place tucked away in the industrial area of Marrickville, I fell in love. Finally, a REAL 🥯 BAGEL AND REAL PUMPERNICKLE BAGELS TO BOOT!! this was over 2 years ago, but now it is disappointing, They no longer make an authentic RUBEN. What they are calling a Ruben is simply pastrami on a bagel. It has apparently changed hands from the original owners, and while the bagels are still better the most outside of the Valcluse area, they are not what they used to be and certainly not worth nearly $5 for 1 bagel. As a real New Yorker, I am very critical when it comes to businesses claiming to be the REAL THING. BE IT bagels or pizza etc.. While the average Aussie might find these guys great, A REAL NEW YORKER can tell the difference. I'd be less critical if they weren't claiming to be Authentic. As far as a bagel goes, they are ok, NOT GREAT, BUT OKAY at least its not a bread roll with a hole! But they are smaller then the average bagel, and stale tasting for whats meant to be freshly baked on the day, the ones I bought yesterday certainly did not look or taste freshly made and I ended up giving $40 worth of Bagles (6) and a loaf of Rye Bread (that I could have commited a murder with) away.
THEY ARE WAY TO EXPENSIVE AS WELL!!
WHEN THESE GUYS FIRST APPEARED THEY DEFINITELY WERE AMAZING, IT'S...
Read more⭐️ Very pretty set up, the store on the outside was really captivating with the bright red colour of the unit. Even the seating area was new and fit with the design of the place really nicely.Super clean from the store itself to even behind the counter that's seen from the customer's perspective. ⭐️ Yummy bagels with a wide variety of bases. I got the OG Lox with Everything Bagel and it was incredibly good, the bread was fresh the red onions matched perfectly with the salmon. Everything tasted amazing. ⭐️ The lady who served me was so nice and from what i could see with the staff helping other customers they were very friendly. Very good customer service. ⭐️ They were pretty good timing wise regarding us ordering 4 bagels with alterations. ✨ It was a little pricey but worth the money paid. I do understand the ingredients they use are fresh and cost more so the quality you get is exactly what you pay for.
Overall loved this place, would definitely come again to maybe try out the coffee element of the place. Beware of parking there's maybe one space infront of it and a bunch of busy kerb side parking....
