Chicky Char Char Marrickville — Restaurant in Sydney

I stumbled upon Chicky Char Char earlier this year, and made the mistake of ordering Portuguese style chicken. And it was OK. There wasn't anything particularly great about it. It was just chicken. Recently, as I work in the area, I found myself hungry, and decided to give these guys a shot. I'm so very glad I did. This time, I ordered the BBQ chicken, after jonesing for the delicious BBQ chickens of my childhood years in Newcastle. It. Was. Magnificent. The skin was delicious and needed no adulteration from the various condiments on offer. The lemon potatoes were awesome too! Since then, I've branched out into their creamy potatoes. I would literally kill for these. I know the word "literally" is thrown around a bit these days, but you Simpsons fans will understand that this is my ribwich. I’ve been a fan of chicky char char for a while now, always ordering from ubereats but actually visited their store recently for a meal in. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with a warm welcome and friendly smiles from the very new owners. The customer service was excellent—super attentive, fast, and genuinely helpful. They took the time to recommend options and made sure my order was perfect.

Now, let’s talk about the food—absolutely delicious! I ordered the grilled chicken wrap, and it was hands down one of the best I’ve ever had. The chicken was cooked to perfection—tender and juicy, every bite was bursting with flavor. It was the perfect balance of freshness and spice, and I could tell the ingredients were top-quality. Also had the Greek salad which is another favourite of mine 🤤 it was stunning!

Got a 1/2 Portuguese chicken meal (1/2 chicken with chips and a can of drink). $4 extra to switch the chips out for a salad option, ok- little bit annoying as the meal goes to $20 and you don't get any chips if you want a small salad. I just wanted a small side salad which seemed stupid to be near $10. Asked the lady at till if possible to get a meal with a bit of both, thought id be getting a small chips and salad with the chicken and drink for $20 after being charged more... no chips on my plate.

Same lady bought the meal out- when I asked about the chips she said "that what you wanted" - then walked away - thanks very much. The chicken was just a roast 1/2 chicken with a dip (choice or garlic or peri peri) was dry and bland and the sauce didn't do much for it.

Overpriced and plenty of other options over in Newtown - will stick with Clem's which is cheaper, better and have...
