I've thought long and hard about writing this . The pub style food maybe ok. ( I don't know) the food they run around giving out looks decent - again have not tried. But their steaks are not. They're extremely bad and at $35 $32 for a pub steak, that takes a small fortune on the pokies, it's beyond belief. I gave up getting the steak sandwiches, which I bought regularly. Now the steaks. I wrapped the LAST one up ( which was a complimentary meal for another bad steak ) I took it home and gave it to the dogs. I have lived in this area and all over Sydney. The steaks tasted like they'd been defrosted in microwave and/ or cooked in one. They were tough and inedible . I contacted pub once about the steak sandwiches and was ignored. I took steaks back and female manager was pleasant and gave me complimentary meals - these I got on Sunday 24th. I gave to my dogs. You need to fix this problem fast or remove steaks from menu. Rip eye looks like a chop and tastes like one and eye fillet had zero tenderness ... DY RSL do similar steaks and they melt in my mouth....
Read moreLarge pub set off a busy main road. It would be easy to miss, as this section of Brookvale is something you'd normally be driving through as quickly as possible.
But it was renovated earlier this year, and the expansive pub inside doesn't look too bad. There's a sports bar and smoking area up front, and large bistro/drinking/beer garden areas out the back. Inside is a bit too dark for my tastes; a skylight would go a long way.
But the drinks selection is decent, and is the food menu. They've got one of those cook-your-own-steak grills if you don't mind doing that.
We stopped in for a Sunday lunch and found it relaxing. Good service, not too packed, nice clean toilets, shaded seats outside.
All of this would normally add up to a 3-star review for me, but my lunch easily tips it up to a 4-star. For I had here, at the Brookvale Hotel, the best burger of my five years in Australia. It was thick, coarsely-ground, blackened, well-seasoned meat, with crisp, fresh toppings, delicious spicy sauce, and a springy brioche bun. It was am amazing,...
Read moreI haven't been to Brookvale Hotel since the building of the apartments. What a shame the outdoor area and bbq are no longer there. It's a lot smaller and a bit weird having to walk through the tab section with children to get to the dining area. The food was lovely, arrived quick, but expensive. Staff were friendly and helpful, however, every glass I picked up for water and both my glasses of wine were stained with lipstick... I'm probably going a bit ott rn but that erks me. I know it's loreal lip infinity and the glasses are actually clean but if you have time to stand and chat behind the bar then you have time to polish your glasses. Didn't even try getting into the carpark, was lucky enough to squeeze into a spot...
