Used to wander here after other clubs were shut and this place was always a place to try different beers on tap or long island iced teas...Whatever floats your boat.
Some say it is a gay bar yet I've only seen less than 20 or so gay people mostly straight, and mostly women and im straight. Just not homophobic.
In fact the RARE aggressive man seems to come here with homophobia too which the men they pick on, not realizing are often friends with the ladies that the bullies are either with or hoping to meet. Possibly on an aggressive stimulant im not sure. Only saw that from ONE rare guy. since 2001.
Anyway the staff are great, i once tipped over a jug of beer and was asked if im stable enough to keep drinking, i explained i was nervous with the ladies i was sitting with. He looked at me with the careful eyes and realized i was honest and not over the limit for another beer. (Walking straight not slurring words, not spilling a tray of beers over filled with perfect head on the beers)
This was probably my first time here. So if it harms RSA laws here, its old news not new staff. He was not a bully cop type barmen is all im trying to say.
This still is a great bar to this day. Bouncers always welcome most punters by name yet chuck out riff raff causing a scene.
Anyway great place and is a MIXED club not a gay bar..Im not gay and many women do come here. Pretty often hetero women will take their boyfriend here. Some to avoid predator prowling type men. Some to go between other places or just hang here weekends of open hours.
It was mostly punters of all sorts of life : the artistic the alternative, the hip, the straight, some LGBTQ whatever floats your boat, mostly just tolerant people. Good people. Met some great people i will not forget.
Hopefully the old days of kings cross and oxford street venturing all over between clubs and bars comes back soon if it has not already. cant grade the food, do not think I've tried it yet 4 stars for everything else. Barmen great, good music, good people, good bouncers , good managers. Punter here from...
Read moreThis venue sits right in the middle of the gay strip of Oxford street on the corner of Crown (street). The music is more of an alternative mix. So if you are looking for a gay scene or more pop, this is not the place.
The crowd tends to be older and mixed of straight and gay ppl. It is known to be a out-place where the curious and bi go to try their luck with the same sex to see how things goes. Seems to be known as the experimental joint for individuals.
The drinks are mid price. In other words, not cheap. There are 2 floors and the theme on each floor is not different to the other.
If you are looking for drag shows, this location hardly sponsors any good acts. Or any at all for that matter. It is merely a bar/club that sits there with crowd walking in and out.
In terms of complaints, the tv screens tend to show music videos that are different to the music that is playing. There is no synchrony. Not sure what the deal is with that. Maybe they are a form of subliminal hypnotism or just drunk confusion, I am not sure. And the speakers are not well balanced. So, the music tend to be irritating, whatever is playing.
Bland location, but nevertheless a classic location. Worth a drop-by, but not sure if it's...
Read moreThe vibe of the crowd was great, but I had a very strange experience with a bald bouncer. He had assumed that our group knew a group standing in front of us and begun telling us to clear off in a rude manner.
When I told him we did not know the group, he started making comments aimed to provoke me. He looked at my license and laughed and said he was the same age but we sure didn't look like it. He kept mentioning this throughout the conversation and insinuated that I "looked smashed" and apparently older. He started to ask very personal questions about my career, where I went to school and university etc. While I answered these questions coherently and was let inside, my friends and I found this process very invasive and aggressive.
Do inform your staff that as bouncers that they are there to maintain safety and order in the environment, not to interrogate mid-20s aged women with invasive questions about their personal lives that make us feel harassed and unsafe.
Kind regards,
J
PS - Have also noticed a few comments below mentioning discrimination against Asian patrons by security staff. I happen to also fall into this demographic... And FYI we tend to appear younger than our...
