Our group left without even ordering because of the unacceptable customer service.
We made an online booking through The Fork and received written, emailed confirmation that we had booked a table for 10 people, with a 30% off offer on the A la carte menu. There was no warning whatsoever that a group of this size would be requested to order the banquet menu.
When we arrived, the restaurant staff refused to serve our BYO birthday cake at the end of our dinner. At most, they would store the cake, but we would not be allowed to consume it on site. This is the first restaurant I have ever been to in Sydney which has refused to serve a birthday cake. We would have been happy to pay a cakeage fee but that was not an offered solution. We decided to forgo eating the cake there, and continue on with our dinner.
We were not provided with any food menus at all - only drink menus were placed on our table. When we requested the food menu, the waitress informed us that we would need to order the banquet as we had a large group. We asked to see the banquet menu but the only description provided was "SAMMY’S 7 DISHES SELECTION ". The waitress was unable to tell us what these 7 dishes were, or how a vegetarian in our group would be catered for. We had specifically made a reservation for A la carte dining because we wanted to meet the differing dietary requirements within our group.
We spoke with another waitress to request A la carte dining because 1) we presented written confirmation for A la carte dining and 2) because the staff were unable to tell us what we would be served if we ordered the banquet menu. The waitress said she would speak to her manager and get back to us.
We waited about 15-20 minutes during which
In the end, we got tired of waiting and decided to go elsewhere. We packed up our belongings and approached the bar. We requested to have our cake back, and I offered to pay for a wine glass we had accidentally knocked over and broken. The waitress said it is their policy that they do not charge for broken glassware.
I then informed the waitress that we would be leaving as she did not return to us with an answer from her manager regarding ordering off the a la carte menu. At this point, she said she was unable to contact her manager who was off site, but that she thinks it should be OK for us to order a la carte if we would like to stay. This was all very strange considering she had about 15-20 minutes to tell us this information, but didn't. We decided to leave, and found another restaurant to eat at, which had no issues with our group size or the fact we brought our own...
Read moreHad lunch here on 17 June. Get in soon or you’ll never get a table once word gets out about this restaurant. I’d love to keep it to myself but the food’s too good and they deserve to do well, so I’m sharing.
We went for the mud crab feast as it looked amazing and it didn’t disappoint. Service was friendly and professional, from greeting to departure we were treated as special guests. The food was spectacular. I would give it more stars if I could. We started with the K pop maniac cocktail, a delicious sour apple and grapefruit delight. Then the courses started to arrive. First up was the kingfish with a lime, yuzu and soy dressing. Melt in the mouth marinated fish and a zesty light sauce whet our appetites for more and there was a lot more to come. Next were perfect prawn dumplings, again paired with the right amount of sauce to compliment but not drown the flavour. These disappeared quickly. Then we had a big steamed bun with pulled pork with star anise (I think) and honey, served with a home made sriracha that packed a punch. The bun was the size of my fist and loaded with meat and flavour. Following this was a duck breast pancake. Assembly required with the steamed crepes, perfectly cooked smoked duck with crisp skin and pink meat, shredded shallots, cucumber and sauce. Finger food is my favourite and this was the best duck pancake I’ve ever eaten. That’s saying something because I eat duck as often as I can and I’m very judgemental. Then the star of the show: the mud crab in a pepper sauce. Crackers and picks provided and we set to work. Loads of meat that was fun to extract. No hard work required and full body bibs provided. The pepper sauce was a great support act to the crab. It’s not often you get the chance to eat crab cooked so well, without having to take out a second mortgage. We are pretty full and happy by now but the feast continues. The next dishes are Korean fried chicken (who doesn’t love this) and a steamed snapper fillet in a ginger soy broth. I love fish and one of my favourite ways to serve is steamed and in broth. This fish was heaven. I could eat this food all day, every day and never tire of these flavours. We finished with a Korean street food style donut twist, dusted with icing sugar and served with a butterscotch sauce you’d like to swim in.
While the food is brilliant and service is warm and friendly, the restaurant itself is also lovely. A mix of modern Korean art and design with traditional artworks and stylish tableware. We will definitely be back. We will be taking friends here , too as its a great place for...
Read moreWe came to try Diana as this was highly recommended for the fork festival 2022. We got the set menu as it was 50% off and seemed like a great deal for including a whole crab. The Fork Festival shares the menu but not Diana’s website.
The design of the place was filled with large artwork, some reminiscent of Korean culture. We were seated in teh far end of the restaurant as I requested a quiet seat.
Dishes were quite tasty in general - the sashimi salad was surprisingly good, seemed like a rice-less bibimbap fusion with poke bowl. Slightly spicy, but good amount of sashimi to veggie ratio. My other favourite was the black pepper crab. The crab was fresh and sweet and the black pepper sauce greatly enhanced the crab flavor. It is rather messy to eat but they provided some good utensils like the shell cracker and a fork like utensil to dig out the crab meat. They also gave wet towels and a bowl with water/lime to wash your dirty fingers.
I’m not such a great fan of the Peking duck - the skin wasn’t particularly crispy and the meat was a little thickly sliced for Peking duck roll.. The Korean Fried Chicken was alright but the meat was kind of dry and not particularly special. The chicken was served at the same time with the fried rice, which was with egg and scallions. The fried rice could be a bit more seasoned, but the sauce of the Korean Fried chicken helped to give more taste to it.
We also got some drinks - Potts Pointer and the Lychee drink without alcohol. The server made it with alcohol the first time, so in the end we got an additional Lychee drink mocktail style and they charged us for the alcoholic version instead..
Overall the experience was good for the festival, but without the 50% discount, the menu will be quite expensive at $130 per person. We might visit again next time there’s some...
