Situated inside Hotel Downing in Town Hall, @donwacho.syd serves a mix of Latin-inspired dishes along with classic pub favourites that are sure to have punters ecstatic. With a bar on the other side of the room, the various alcoholic beverages offered are perfect for complimenting the food that @donwacho.syd serves.

☆ ARGIE BARBIE ($65)

The Argie Barbie is every meat lover’s dream plate of food as it consists of a bed of Fries with sliced Sirloin Steak that has herbaceous Chimichurri sauce on top of it along with South American Chorizo, made with a combination of Beef and Pork, Grilled Lamb Skewers, Grilled Chicken Skewers, Smokey BBQ Pork Ribs and fried Chicken Wings that have been basted in Buffalo Hot Sauce & finished on the grill before service.

I wonder if @donwacho.syd would implement a choice in the cook of the grass-fed Sirloin Steak for this Argie Barbie item as the sliced pieces turned out to be Medium Well, resulting in some toughness as you ate into the steak. I love my Steak cooked Medium Rare as l can enjoy the texture and flavour of the meat more but that’s just my preference.

I would grab myself a bucket of Fried Chicken Wings, basted with Buffalo Hot Sauce as the mix of Chicken Wings & Drumettes in this Argie Barbie platter had a lovely amount of char on the surface as a result of being finished on the BBQ after being deep-fried. The bite into the Chicken Meat was juicy and had a lovely amount of flavour to it with some heat and notes of acidity from the vinegar within the Buffalo Hot Sauce dancing on your palate.

The Pork Ribs were tender as the meat tore off easily off the bone and had been basted nicely in a Smokey BBQ-flavoured Sauce. The portion of Pork Ribs was like a teaser for me as l now want to try the full rack of Ribs on my next visit. The Chorizo was juicy as it had a combination of Pork & Beef used for the filling but it was the addition of Chimichurri that saved the item as the South American Chorizo-based Sausage itself was very underwhelming in flavour.

The Lamb Skewer threw me for a loop as it was simply seasoned with Salt, Pepper & various herbs so nothing stood out. I was hoping for cubes of Lamb Fat to be threaded with the meat onto the skewer to make it unctuous in flavour but that was not the case.

The grilled Chicken Skewer is an item l could go back at @donwacho.syd for but l would want the seasoning to be even more prominent on the skewers as the flavour is there but just not enough to make an impact on the palate.

Accompanying this meat platter that showcases the various meat-based items that @donwacho.syd has to offer is the Abuela Slaw, a slaw that contains Shredded Carrot and Cabbage that is dressed in a Garlic-heavy Aioli which offers creaminess and a well-rounded Garlic flavour to the simple slaw for maximum flavour.

In addition, there is a Graciela Tomate Salad with rings of Spanish Onion and fresh Parsley that has been dressed in Extra Virgin Olive Oil. The fresh slices of Tomato were fine taste-wise but the harshness of the Raw rings of Spanish Red Onion overpowered the palate which made me didn’t want to go for a second bite. I wish that the rings of Red Onion were transformed into a Pickle rather than just leaving it as is.

I am sorry to say that the Tacos were disappointing as they immediately fell apart upon caressing them for a bite. Usually, soft Corn Tortillas that l have had in the past have been able to stand up to time, remaining sturdy yet pliable to eat the filling but this was messy to eat as the Tacos broke apart from the residual moisture in the cooked down meats.

The fillings for both Tacos were underwhelming in flavour despite being marinaded and braised for a long period. I feel that more seasoning is required to make the fillings stand out...

nachos ($15) ✅ the homemade guac, salsa, sour cream and cheese are SO PERFECTLY seasoned and a wonderful mix together , u can add braised beef or marinated chicken ($5) but honestly it doesnt even need it!!

Some of the worst food I've ever eaten in Sydney, my girlfriend booked an Argentinian BBQ and what we received I wouldn't serve to my dog, the meat was packed with inedible grizzly fat, super dry and flavorless as you can see from the photo, similar story with the chicken 0 flavor and filled nasty fat, I don't believe this was barbecued, 0 BBQ flavor, service was also horrible, when we manged to get the waiter or VM to the table he asked how it was and I said in a polite manner that it was a absolutely awful, and I was met with laughter. It has been a few hours since I eat the small amount that I did and I'm feeling very very unwell, belching up this nasty...
