When ordering a bottle of wine, my friend specifically requested a $45 bottle over an $80 bottle. When we received the bill we were shocked to see we had been charged for the $80 bottle. We assumed this was a mistake and were incredibly surprised to find your waitstaff had served us the $80 bottle, which we did not ask for nor did we want.

While the staff acknowledged this was their mistake, they insisted we pay for the $80 bottle. I do not understand why it is the customer’s responsibility to check whether they have been served the correct bottle of wine.

I explained this to the manager Jack, yet he was unwilling to compromise and quite rude, saying that “if we enjoyed it and we drank it we should pay for it”. I believe that is irrelevant, as it was not what I ordered. Jack provided a 5% discount on the bill, after backtracking on a 25% discount he had offered moments before. This was was also inexplicably bad service.

When I called to confirm Jack’s full name to reference in this complaint he would not give it to me, saying he was not ‘liable’. I explained to Jack, I simply wanted to note that he had dealt with our bill, but I found his defensiveness and lack of cooperation astounding. Coupled with his not wanting to get in ‘trouble’ for something Jack acknowledged was the mistake of your establishment, I find this to be incredibly poor service and not something to expect from a so-called manager.

After four days Jack called to offer us $80 on a table but the experience was so negative that we will never be going back there again. He also tried to lie and say we tasted the wine before ordering. We did not.

My friends and I, who are regular customers, will not be attending your establishment again nor will we refer our friends and family. We understand mistakes get made but having taken responsibility for this, your restaurant should have let us pay the price of the bottle we actually ordered, not what your staff decided to give us. The defensiveness of your staff and their unwillingness to provide a good customer experience makes me wonder if you do this regularly...

Handpicked Urban wineries is in the heart of Chippendale in the thriving precinct on Kensington Street. A cellar door on your doorstep, a large space with an industrial feel, complete with a wine store, wine vats, tables for you to enjoy the fruits of the urban wineries or enjoy a tasting at the bar. The winemakers 'handpick' fine wine from famous wine regions around the world and craft it in the style of the region it represents. This will let you travel the world one wine at a time without leaving Sydney. Wines are from Australia; New South Wales, SA, Vic, WA, Tas as well as Italy, Chile and France.

Wines can be purchased by the glass at $10, $15 or $18. There are small batch selections on tap for $8 a glass. Otherwise go for a tasting at the bar, ranging from $10-$20 for six wine tastings. You can also have a 30min tutored tasting.

We also tried the prose Summer Cocktail Special for $14, where you can make your own Prose Cocktail with prosecco and sorbet, guided by the staff and DIY garnish with fairy floss.

Charcuterie boards are pretty reasonable, curated by the Formaggi Ocelli Cheese Specialist. Make your own selection of soft cheeses; from Camembert, Brie or Goat milk to washed rind cheeses, hard and semi hard cheeses or Blue. We opted for the Cacio di Bosco; a sheep milk cheese with shaved white truffle from Tuscany, Italy. We also had a blue cheese, complemented by crackers. You can also order salamis, Bresaola, prosciutto or serrano.

If you enjoy wine and cheese, this place is a must. The knowledgeable ble staff willing to assist if required and do a generous pour. It does need more space to sit or a booking system for the...

ATTENTION AUSSIE OYSTER & WINE LOVERS 🍷🦪❤️✨

Did you know you don’t have to drive to Wine Country for an amazing cellar door experience? You can visit a vibey urban cellar door in the heart of the city instead!

Handpicked Wines is the perfect city destinations for wine lovers with locations in both the heart of Sydney and Melbourne 🍷

We visited the Sydney location recently for their oyster season special and enjoyed freshly shucked oysters paired with curated wine flights and a plate of 12 oysters. The oysters were so fresh and delicious and the paired wines were to die for 💭

Shout out to Andrew, our host, who was so welcoming and talked us through the wines and the flavour profiles. We tasted wines from the Mornington Peninsula, Yarra Valley, Barossa Valley and Tasmania.

Important Info: 🦪 $80 Oyster flight of four garnished oysters to match four Wines 🚶 Handpicked Cellar Door Sydney is just a 10 mins stroll from Central station very near Spice Alley 🎄 This experience is only available from now until the end of the year 🍷 Both venues are open six days a week and offer a diverse array of wine flights to suit every palate, guided tastings, cheese flights, and charcuterie boards.

The urban cellar door is just stunning and a perfect vibey location for a vino with friends, colleagues or loved ones!

Stumbled on here searching for a wine tasting place in the city. They had a variety of flight selections that should serve everyone, all with cheese pairing available. We had the oysters + wine pairing first followed by a Trial by Fire flight and the Singles flight. All were way beyond our expectations, including the cheese pairing and cold cuts. The table next to us also bought some of the cold cuts in addition to the wine. They are generous with letting you taste the wines you’re interested in ordering, and have a wide range of high quality that should suit your needs. Most importantly the service staff made the whole experience memorable. We received the Thai member that ensured we had a 5 star experience but the others were also very pleasant. Would recommend anyone to come here to have a taste of some of the best Australia has to offer.
