When ordering a bottle of wine, my friend specifically requested a $45 bottle over an $80 bottle. When we received the bill we were shocked to see we had been charged for the $80 bottle. We assumed this was a mistake and were incredibly surprised to find your waitstaff had served us the $80 bottle, which we did not ask for nor did we want.
While the staff acknowledged this was their mistake, they insisted we pay for the $80 bottle. I do not understand why it is the customer’s responsibility to check whether they have been served the correct bottle of wine.
I explained this to the manager Jack, yet he was unwilling to compromise and quite rude, saying that “if we enjoyed it and we drank it we should pay for it”. I believe that is irrelevant, as it was not what I ordered. Jack provided a 5% discount on the bill, after backtracking on a 25% discount he had offered moments before. This was was also inexplicably bad service.
When I called to confirm Jack’s full name to reference in this complaint he would not give it to me, saying he was not ‘liable’. I explained to Jack, I simply wanted to note that he had dealt with our bill, but I found his defensiveness and lack of cooperation astounding. Coupled with his not wanting to get in ‘trouble’ for something Jack acknowledged was the mistake of your establishment, I find this to be incredibly poor service and not something to expect from a so-called manager.
After four days Jack called to offer us $80 on a table but the experience was so negative that we will never be going back there again. He also tried to lie and say we tasted the wine before ordering. We did not.
My friends and I, who are regular customers, will not be attending your establishment again nor will we refer our friends and family. We understand mistakes get made but having taken responsibility for this, your restaurant should have let us pay the price of the bottle we actually ordered, not what your staff decided to give us. The defensiveness of your staff and their unwillingness to provide a good customer experience makes me wonder if you do this regularly...
