We are from interstate & had researched the best pizza restaurants to eat in Sydney whilst we were recently there on holiday & chose Macchiato from reviews. We made a reservation online on 03/08/2025 for dinner on 26/09/2025 @ 6:30pm. We arrived at the specified time of 6.30pm. On arrival at the front door, we were told by the front of house person that we would have to wait for an earlier customer to finish & pay even though we had reserved a table over a month earlier and we also produced our booking confirmation to him which should have ensured us a table regardless. We waited for 15mins outside on the street & constantly asked the man at front of house who continually ignored us. In the meantime, several customers who had not made a reservation were ushered through in front of us & were seated at tables whilst we still stood outside and waited. We were finally seated at one of the worst tables in the restaurant, right next to the kitchen in the service area for staff collecting pizzas and carrying large crates of glasses & crockery. I was constantly nudged and jostled by the staff. Pizza 1: was ok because I had minimal toppings and they neglected to put any cheese on it. The base was so thin the toppings kept falling off. The only way I could eat it was to roll up each slice. Pizza 2: My wife had the Chorizo Supreme pizza which was nearly impossible to eat as the base became quite soggy and fell apart even if you tried to roll it up. Pizza 3: My daughters pizza was the worst. She wanted just a simple ham and cheese pizza with mild pepperoni which we asked the waitress. She said that she would have to order the 'Pepperoni' pizza on your menu & you could just add the ham to this and she would make sure there was no 'chilli' on this as stated on the menu. Her pizza arrived & was so ridiculously soggy & could not be picked up at all as the base disintergrated when you touched it. There was also 'chilli' on her pizza which was supposed to be removed & she could not eat any of it which was a total waste of $. We made the staff aware of the chilli on my daughters pizza & there was absolutely no response by the staff or management to correct the problem & there was no offer made to refund the pizzas that were inedible even though we raised this with the waitress & she said that she would follow this up on the night. In conclusion, we will never attend your restaurant again & will surely advise our family & friends both locally & interstate to avoid this restaurant.

We came in a big group of 20 for a celebration. We had money to burn. You think that a waiter would have been all over our table with the intention to get us as many drinks and food as we could possibly consume. If I was the business owner, that’s what I would have made my staff to do. And guess what, we would have spent the money too, as we were very keen to have a good time. But not this place. When we got there, we waited over 5 minutes at our table and no one helped us. We had to ask to order! What a wasted business opportunity for them! When we finally did order, they got confused and completely forgot one poor lady in our groups meal. She asked where her meal was and they asked her what it was. She mentioned that she thought it might be the same thing another lady ordered but wasn’t sure (she’s not Italian so she couldn’t remember the exact name). So about 10 minutes later they bring a dish identical to what the other lady ordered for her. But then when she’s halfway through her late meal, they brought the original dish she actually ordered which apparently was slightly different to what she told the waiter was late. The waiter then got angry and blamed her!! If they hadn’t have screwed up the order in the first place, they wouldn’t have to ask their own customer what she ordered. And to then blame a customer when you should have already known what she ordered in the first place, that seems harsh. All this could have been forgiven if the food was good. But it’s not. Which is surprising as it’s a very expensive venue in the middle of the city that seems to be run by Italians. The pizza was absolute rubbish. I ordered the potato and truffle pecorino pizza which cost over $30 and it was flavourless! I also tried other pizzas and was very disappointed. And the biggest sin is my pizza was cold!!! There’s no excuses for that. The food is not authentic Italian at all. The only thing authentic about this place is the Italian style service which is slow, disinterested and blames you. Won’t be...

We booked ahead for Sunday lunch at Macchiato, hoping for a lively, enjoyable meal—but unfortunately, the experience fell short from the start. Despite having a reservation, walk-ins were seated before us, and while we did eventually get a booth, it felt like we’d been tucked away from the restaurant’s main buzz.

It took around 20 minutes before anyone came to take our order, and throughout the entire lunch, the wait staff remained inattentive. It felt like we were an afterthought, which really took the shine off what we hoped would be a special meal.

I ordered the vongole pasta—usually my go-to—but asked for no chilli due to a mild intolerance. While they did leave the chilli out, it also seemed to be missing the punch of garlic that makes the dish sing. It was okay, but bland and forgettable. I wouldn’t order it again. My husband had a pizza, which was far better—crispy, flavoursome, and well-balanced.

The biggest letdown? The mocktail. At $15, it was little more than juice poured into a standard glass— no flair, and no reason for the price tag.

Dirty plates sat on our table for ages after we’d finished, and by that point, we’d lost interest in staying for dessert. Oddly, the bill was ready and waiting as soon as we approached the cashier—perhaps the only thing that happened quickly all afternoon.

Given the high ratings, we had much higher expectations. The food (at least the pizza) had promise, but the service and atmosphere let everything down. It felt like being there on a Sunday was an inconvenience to the staff. Sadly, we won’t...
