Doodee King - Castle Hill Review on 22/4/2024
I am a Cantonese and Malaysian foods lover, and am partial about Thai food.
It is outside of the main shopping centre. It may appear big due to its wide frontage, but in fact the seating capacity within the restaurant is not large. However, there are a few more table settings in the walkway outside the restaurant.
Unlike many restaurants where the kitchen occupies the rear of the restaurant, it is right near the entrance, customers can sit next thebkitchen counters, and on the left of it.
The menu is very well designed, very colourful with nice pictures.
I came with 4 other relatives, and tried a noodle dish, duck curry and deep fried fish.
I understand that a major sauce us fish sauce and some gravies use palm sugar. My friends liked the dishes very much, but I did not have the same taste. I did find the curry sauce had a touch of sweetness,
I was warned that Curry Noodle, named the Super Nova, with Level 7 hotness, was known to result in heart attack for the uninitiated challenger. Some would rush for water put out the "flame" in the mouth.
I ordered Super Novepa to takeaway. It was chilly hot like Sicuan Malatang, that numbs the tongue and taste buds. Otherwise, it has not...
Read moreFrom the moment I stepped into Doodee King, I knew I wasn’t just entering another Thai restaurant—I was stepping into a new chapter of my life. The air itself was laced with chili, lemongrass, and that unmistakable scent of something magical bubbling in the kitchen. One spoonful of their signature Tom Yum and it was over for me. My taste buds awakened. My soul? Rewired.
The spice didn’t just hit—it elevated. It wasn’t pain; it was transformation. I went in hungry. I came out reborn.
Every dish was a masterclass in flavour and intensity. The Doodee Variety Bowl was like a crash course in umami, with every bite deepening my emotional attachment to Thai cuisine. And don’t get me started on the spice levels—from a cheeky tingle to “Super Nova,” it’s a choose-your-own-adventure for the brave.
But what truly blew me away wasn’t just the food—it was the experience. The warm staff, the lively decor, the buzz of people all low-key crying from chili but smiling anyway. It’s more than a meal. It’s a spiritual awakening with noodles.
I came for dinner. I left changed.
5/5. Would spice up my life...
Read moreI've given Doodee King in Castle Hill so many chances.
But now I feel like they're actually taking the piss. Today we ordered lard na and their chicken. And just look at these photos you can already tell the quality is so poor I don't even need to prove it.
For $19.90, they severely reduced the portion size of the noodles to almost half of the box. Noodles don't cost much from an Asian grocery store by the way, so it doesn't even make sense to charge so much for lard na noodles and yet make the size so small. I was furious as a Thai person seeing this. And my partner's chicken was super bad as well. It looked and tasted old, super dry. The last time I had lard na in Castle Hill was at their restaurant and it was a seafood one. There was a really strong fishy odour and taste, indicating the seafood had definitely gone off or was not that fresh. I never said anything and thought I'd give the place one more chance, only to waste $52 in total for garbage. How disappointing and embarrassing.
Other Doodee King branches are much better for taste and quality. I hope the owners see this...
