Earlwood Izakaya — Restaurant in Sydney

Definitely overrated. Service was excellent and the order and wait between dishes was appropriate. Spent $60 and left a little hungry and flavours were painfully average.

$24 Sashimi 9 pieces of generic salmon/tuna/kingfish. Overpriced; you can get 12-14 pieces anywhere else for that price and same quality. Pretty looking dish, but you don’t even have it for long because the portion is so small, you eat it and it gets taken away. Makes it feel like such a waste of effort to make all those decorations.

Taro Chips Pretty much perfect in terms of portion and with very appropriate flavour and seasoning. Nitpicking, I wish it came out hot and wasn’t so wafer thin, because otherwise it makes it feel store-bought even though you know the batch was probably all fried in the morning.

Gyoza Wish the filling had a bit more texture, mositure and seeetness perhaps from some diced veg. Feel like 6 pcs rather than 5 would be more appropriate considering the small size, but not a big deal here.

Teriyaki Chicken Skewers I felt the teriyaki sauce needed a bit more sugar. Really wish the portion was like 10-20% bigger. Otherwise probably the best thing that day...

Second time I’ve been here. First time they forgot about the food and only told me when I approached the counter. The lady behind the counter didn’t seem to care and offered a refund. Second time the service of the lady behind the counter felt very unwelcoming, as if I was interrupting her day. I didn’t want to say anything, but this is the first time I’ve visited a cafe where staff made me feel like I shouldn’t be there. I dined here last night and while the food was amazing unfortunately this was overshadowed by the lack of service. We had ordered 8 dishes and received them all one by one during the night while a larger table next to us was receiving all their entrees and mains at the same time.
