Breakfast Disaster - Won't be seeing us again!
A quick summary for those short on time, on the last 2 occasions they have forgotten meals, and also served meals completely out of sync with the concept of dining together.
For those whom have more time to read.
We have frequented Firestone for what feels like years now (since it opened and replaced the previous restaurant there) and have always left satiated and impressed. Staff were generally friendly and accomodating.
So what went wrong for us. Well the second last time we visited (3 Adults/3 Kids) all started well, order was taken promptly. Then the first miss...it seems my request of no-ice in the juice was taken to mean overpack with ice and no-juice....okay no biggie. Then the rest of the meals begin to arrive, bar mine that is. Thinking that it will be only a matter of moments until mine is to come, I encourage the wife and vultures to tuck in. Unortunately my French Toast never did some prompting me to call for the waiter. Seems they missed mine though they acknowledged it was their mistake. I was hungry though so accepted a further 10min wait. I ordered a coffee to fill in the time. Unfortunately that arrived 10mins later with breakfast. So not a great experience for myself but the rest of the family was happy, and sometimes mix ups happen. Happy to give another chance.
So what went wrong the last time? Again we ordered as a family however strangely this time my meal was the first to come out. Okay great, that means the kids and wife must be soon after right. So I will wait and we can eat together as a family? Well....no. One of the kids meals followed a few mins later. To keep the vultures at bay I attempted to segment the first meal up though this resulted in some primal screehes and so I gave that up leaving the other baby birds chirping "where's mine". Then the remaining kids meals came out again a few mins later. Now though i'm thinking do I put out a missing meal notice for the wife's. I follow up with the waitress and told hers is next. I explain that it really is not acceptable as my breakfast had gone cold waiting and no delay was communicated.
Received a meaningless apology from the waitress but fair enough, it's not her remit to deal with. Finally the wife's does come. Great i'll endure my cold breakfast to keep her happy...but no, her gnocci is not cooked afer slicing a couple of pieces in 1/2. Okay so back to the waiter whom observes and returns it to the kitche. We are told 3 mins (about the time it takes to boil gnocci). 4 mins later the waiter brings her meal back. By this time the other components (mushrooms, egg etc) have gone cold, and the gnocci is now rubbery. Queue the calling of the manager whom we then show that they have just cooked the same gnocci further, the obvious tell tale being that the pieces my wife had cut prior were still on the plate. Okay we've had enough, time to leave as clearly nothing was going to plan that day.
We inform the manager whom does take both my meal (untouched) and the wifes off the bill, however after wasting an hour of our time and not delivering to an expectation, I don't think that was enough. The manager did know us from prior frequent visits and therefore I would have thought would try and alleviate the situation better, although I get the impression that his hands were somewhat tied as he was polite about the whole thing.
Regardless we will be going elsewhere for breakdast now as we have given a second chance to Firestone Hornsby and it was not able to...

After completing the Blue Gum Bush walk in Hornsby with my sister and close friends, we walked around Hornsby mall looking for a decent brunch spot. Had it not been for one of my eagle eyed girls, seeing the beautiful turquoise blue framing, just up the way from Cafe Blu, we definitely would have missed out...not saying this lightly. Hornsby is quite an expensive place to eat depending on what you're after, I guess...
The place was full of patrons but the energy was alive and buzzing. We scanned the menu outside while we waited & decided that this seemed reasonably priced. I was excited, especially seeing as 'Eggs Benny' in some of the surrounding places were going for as little as $18.00 - $23.00... Must be something in the hollandaise, hmmm? Firestone's humble Eggs Benny was $17 to $17.50 - if I recall correctly... so I was sold instantly.
It took a few minutes before we were seated by a smiley and friendly man (presumably the owner?) The menu looked fresh and unique. My taste buds were salivating. Let me tell you...I can't speak highly enough of this place and of the service. The lovely lady who served us was welcoming and made sure to repeat everything back to us. She didn't miss anything.
Between us, we shared French Toast, Breakky burger with fried chicken and avo, the Kim cheese sanga, waffles, and the Eggs benedict with a croissant and side of Hashies. The little person at our table (my friend's son) had waffles hahaha but he was asking for bananas and strawberries to add to his waffle and icecream so we obliged him :)
Wait time - pretty decent for the morning rush (10.30-11.30am). We didn't have to wait long, and it was quite busy. Breakfast ends at 11.30am so get there on time, folks. Pricing - great value for money, considering the location & other competing businesses. Flavours - unique, fresh & flavoursome. I'm literally thinking of my Eggs Benny as I write - the egg was runny, the hollandaise sauce was to-die-for, and the flavours were just... yum!!! Serving sizes were generous and we are still RAVING about this spot today. Vibe- Ambiance was open, fresh and cosy without it feeling too overcrowded. Social distancing was being observed but it still had a intimate feel. We could hear ourselves talk even with music playing in the background. It was so chill.
Thank you to the Firestone team for making our first experience memorable and worthwhile. May the odds be ever in your favour and may this place flourish. After reading the reviews about the coffees here, I'm definitely going to order a Chai next time. Yes, there will be a next time.
Photos coming soon. But seeing other people's pics should be enough to whet...
Read moreInteresting restaurant/cafe with sells Western food with Korean influence.Menu is diverse with salads, pizza, steaks, Korean/western dishes, deserts & large drinks menu coffee to alcohols. There is also 3 seperate menus, dividing breakfast lunch and dinner. There is a lovely outdoor area which houses seperate cafe with outdoor seating based in air conditioned rooms this is definitely a plus especially in got weather, you got the outdoor feel with cool breeze. Indoor area is more for restaurant patrons really nice atmosphere it feels like they have drawn inspirations from Grounds of Alexandria with there own ideas. As the name firestone suggests main is the steak which comes on a hot stone which you can cook the steak to your own preferences not a new concept but definitely a thumbs up, as i like to share food and some people prefer well done instead of medium rare. Steak unfortunately needs improvement advertised as Wagyu but i could hardly see any marbling and it was not that tender, the tomato on the side not sure why, maybe for visual effects. Broccolini nice green touch, but they must of dropped my dish as others had two pieces on top of steak mine was half off the plate and only one piece .Mushroom sauce was too bland needs more flavour did not compliment the steak. Also as steak comes on hotplate all it needed was a slight sear, but mine was burnt on one side. Chicken salad was well portioned lots of chicken but it needed more greens and the bacon came as large pieces which was burnt and rock hard smaller pieces would of worked better in this salad, even in pictures you notice how dark it is. Also the anchovies gave a slight fishy taste to salad, I recommend asking kitchen to remove if you don't like seafood. One item which did stand out for me was the ricotta hot cakes this pretty much was redemption from the other dishes. It was delicious and presentation was beautiful. Service needs improvement staff need to communicate better with patrons especially explaining ordering system which was a hard to see button you press to announce your ready to order mine was covered by menus and was waiting for a while thinking what's going on. Overall experience wasnt great or bad with improvements I'm sure this business will be better. Generous with rating more a 3.5 than 4. Will visit again to try other dishes, hopefully things will be better...
