I've tried this cafe a number of times as I live local. The reason why I'll feel stupid and be disappointed at myself for going back is because of the service experience that is on offer. Mind you, the only trepidation I have is that the guy's in the kitchen are more or less excellent, although I do need to mention an occasion where both my partner and I instantly suffered from mild food poisoning after eating a bacon and egg role.
It's the front line staff that are disappointing, in particular the cashier lady who is there every Saturday morning who I assume must be the manager/owner. Some general customer service skills never go astray in hospitality and the overall feeling of pretentiousness is overwhelming. I've attended the cafe more or less every Saturday for months, and never once have I been warmly recognised or chatted to and considering how consistent my order's have been, I find it offensive how little they seem to care about their customer's. In fact, there is the feeling that their customer's are almost inconveniencing them by interrupting their chats, when trying to place an order or pay the bill.
The catalyst for me is, on one occasion after paying and not receiving any of the change that was due, because as soon as the money had changed hands the cashier immediately returned to a seemingly unrelated to work conversation with a staff member. When questioned the cashier looked both annoyed and uninterested, "oh, I never count change, how much did you give me? $7.50?".
I've tried, Lord I've tried!! to like you Gather on the Green. I've entrusted you with my regular Saturday morning bacon and egg roll. With grit teeth, I've stuck with you and I've put up with your unfriendly manor and you pretentious attitude as the price was good and your a few doors from my house and the food is excellent. But with pain, I'll do everything I can to go out of my way to avoid you, if it wasn't for the frontline staff, there'd be 5 stars heading in...
Read moreThe vibe is nice but i would not recommending for people with allergies. I asked if the matcha Late is vegan and there’s no added milk or milk powder and they said no there’s not so I ordered a vegan matcha late on oatmilk and when they brought it to my table there was icecream in it. I told them nicely that I can’t have it because if the icecream and if someone ordered something vegan that means without dairy and they just said okay and I didn’t get another drink so I just wasted 8$ which is sad. I get that not everyone caters to special diets which is so fine, I just wish they would’ve told me straight away rather then saying they could do it and then giving me something I’m...
Read moreHaving recently moved just across the road from this cafe and enjoying brunch there once before, I was keen to make this place my go to.
Unfortunately I don’t think this will be happening after an underwhelming experience last Sunday. The staff completely avoiding even seating us, there was no line and empty tables. We asked about a table twice and ended up just sitting down.
One woman, the waitress, had such disregard that she stared at us, watching as we got up and walked away!! After sitting with no communication nor service for 20 minutes.
Way more options on King Street, Newtown. With far better,...
