Gelato Messina Martin Place — Restaurant in Sydney

Short review is this is world class gelato and is 100% must try. Longer review: I’m very into craft things, from coffee to whiskey etc… and have gotten a bit into gelato. By that I mean I’m listening to podcasts on it, reading articles from Italian gelato masters and really diving a bit into the craft of gelato. I’ve also travelled across Italy and tried many gelatos there. This checks all the boxes for what I’m looking for in an exceptionally good gelato shop, and I would say is as good as the very best gelato I had in Italy. The colors appear natural, they’re not doing the big mounds of gelato that some touristy or large chain shops do, and they seem to have a super high level of attention to detail with their ingredients going as far as making their own chocolate in house. The gentleman serving the gelato was from Florence, the customer service was exceptional and he encouraged me to try many different flavors that he thought I would like. They were all out of this world, not too sweet but rich with flavor, and the texture of the gelato is perfect. It leaves you feeling very satisfied but isn’t as sort of greasy as some gelatos that make you want to have a glass of water with it. They have an interesting assortment of flavors too, at first I was concerned as they have many flavors and I tend to prefer the artisanal gelato shops that focus on only a few. My concerns were assuaged with the first sample though, as really what they’re doing is nailing the traditional flavors, and then expanding on them very well through their own creative offerings. I like this gelato place!

There is various choices of gelato. And i chose cookies and cream and it was really nice. There is block of cookies inside the gelato and the base has rich vanilla taste. Caramel was my friend’s favorite. I had pan-dan with coconut last time and it was a refreshing taste. The quality of the gelato is really nice. And the price for two scoop is $8 which is pretty worthy. I would prefer the cone could be crispier.

The service was nice. The staff are friendly and always smile each time i come. They are also welcoming to let me try different taste.

The atmosphere was chill. I like the store design since it’s really modern. I would be happier if there is more chair indoor since it was raining, and there could be an umbrella stand since the marble floor is slippery.

The outdoor atmosphere is also pretty chill, watching ducks swimming in the pool while talking with friends. No staff staring you. I would recommend using more comfier chair for the outdoor since the chair is solid hard.
