Came to In the Mood for Thai for a group work lunch with 8 people. Restaurant does not answer their phone (mobile) or online booking requests. Causes a lot of stress for the event organiser. They finally replied to me after days of trying to confirm. We last ate here about 5 years ago but they have since added more tables and bulky chairs. Everyone is so close together and its very hard to get to your seat. The noise of all these groups in such a small space is really loud.
One of our party had their chair break, the back just caved in, she fell on the floor but thankfully was not injured. The staff didn't seem that bothered by it, I thought they would have been apologetic and maybe offered her a free lunch!
Some of us waited a long time for our lunch, it seemed they were batching orders of the same dishes across multiple tables - which makes sense.
My chicken pad thai ($18.90) lacked flavour and the portion size wasn't that large. $5.90 for a can of soft drink is diabolical! Everyone stuck to the table water because of this.
No lunch specials. No split bills. 1.65% card surcharge! 5% discount for cash.. hmm. Unfortunately not everyone has $200 cash on them to pay for the group, so the card surcharge is very steep and over recommended RBA range.

Read moreWe had a great experience at In The Food For Thai in Parramatta. It’s one of the few Thai restaurants in the area that offers halal food with no cross-contamination, even though their menu includes some non-halal items. The staff were very helpful and made sure our meals were prepared using halal ingredients and separate utensils, which gave us a lot of confidence and peace of mind.
The food was absolutely delicious. We started with the Tom Yum Soup (Bangkok style), which was bold, spicy, and aromatic, packed with mushrooms and infused with lemongrass, galangal, and roasted chilli paste. The steamed chicken dim sim was juicy and served with black vinegar and fresh chilli – simple but full of flavour.
The stir-fried fish fillets with chilli and peppercorn were crispy and wok-tossed in a fragrant sauce with Thai basil, fresh chilli, and green peppercorns – definitely one of our favourites. We also had the chilli basil fried rice with chicken, which had the perfect balance of spice, aroma, and texture. To round out the meal, the chicken pad Thai was comforting, slightly sweet and tangy, with generous portions of chicken.
Overall, the food, service, and halal-friendly practices made this a fantastic experience. Highly recommended for anyone craving authentic Thai food with peace of mind when it comes to...

Honest Review… Unfortunately, our visit to this restaurant last night was a letdown. One of the most frustrating aspects was the communication barrier with the waitress, who struggled to understand English, leading to a mix-up with our order.
When we asked, “What comes with the cutlets?” we were told “Garlic Pepper,” which made no sense in context. We later discovered the dish came with salad — not what we were told. We also ordered two small fried rices and received one large chili basil with chicken, The chili was extremely overpowering and not what we ordered.
The cutlets were overcooked and tough, and although the curry puffs had a decent filling, the pastry was hard and lacked flakiness. Honestly, the can of Coke Zero ended up being the highlight of the meal, and costing $106.00 for 2 main meals & Rice & curry puffs just not worth it.
If this restaurant is considered the best Thai in Parramatta, we won’t be exploring Thai options in the area any further. Unfortunately, we won’t be returning — I’d recommend giving this...
