Nice Japanese casual dining in the Sussex centre food court. The foodcourt is still busy for weekend dinner with a lot of table uncleaned so you might need to make yourself out in the trays and plates. The various food model display on the counter reminds me of Japan. Was about to order their ramen but from the ones serving out, it doesn’t look that good (I think this is probably this is also why this is charing only $14.90) so I went for the more important product to this business - curry. The portion for egg and chicken is generous and looks satisfying. Chicken katsu is crispy but a bit chewy maybe because of the crumb is a bit too thick. Egg is slightly overcooked but reasonable and nice to enjoy with rice and curry. Curry feels better than instant curry from supermarket, the hint of different spices is strong and intriguing. The spiciness level is mild and should be easy to handle for most people. The portion of curry is small but I guess this is another way to illustrate my compliment since I didn’t have enough. The rice is also interesting (in a good way), each rice is strong and bouncing (not chewy) and can feel that the quality is higher than many asian restaurant same level. Nice place for a causal easy dinner after a whole days’ work. edit: Went back another time and attracted by the seasonal E.A.K ramen. In general it’s a rather disappointing experience. The broth feels like just came out from microwave and is quite salty. I tried various style of ramen and this broth is definitely not the ones that you can enjoy without noodle. Oher topping feels straight from the fridge. The chashu and inside the eggs are cold. The volume does not make me feel the value that I had before for the curry rice. The good part is the noolde. The chewy texture compliments with the strong. broth. $25 for a ramen is a premium price point in Sydney market and this bowl does not speak for its value.

Ken-Chan Curry is located in Sydney’s Chinatown food hub, making it a highly cost-effective choice. Although the presentation of dishes is somewhat simple due to the competitive location, the flavors are anything but ordinary. This time, I tried their newly launched E.A.K Ramen, Pork Katsu Curry Rice, and their golden signature Karaage Chicken. • E.A.K Ramen features a rich tonkotsu broth. Since I ordered multiple dishes, I opted for a small portion. The noodles are thick and yellow, resembling oil noodles, accompanied by a quail egg, spinach, and a slice of chashu. The broth’s richness was impressive and didn’t disappoint despite its location in a bustling food district. • Pork Katsu Curry Rice was flavorful, with a rich curry that contained shredded chicken, adding to the satisfaction of each bite. The pork cutlet was thick, but the meat itself lacked seasoning, which was a slight letdown. • Karaage Chicken, their signature dish, was the highlight of my meal. The large pieces of chicken were juicy and flavorful, truly deserving of their “signature” title. This restaurant is very affordable and offers a variety of set meals. Overall, the dining experience was satisfying, and the karaage chicken left the strongest impression.

Ken-Chan Curry is an absolute hidden gem in Chinatown! If you’re craving authentic Japanese curry, this place is a must-visit. The curry is rich, flavorful, and comforting—just like what you’d find in Japan. Every bite took me back to the cozy curry shops I visited while traveling. What makes Ken-Chan Curry even better is the incredible value. The portion sizes are generous, and the prices are super reasonable, making it an easy go-to spot for a satisfying meal. Whether you’re a longtime fan of Japanese curry or trying it for the first time, you’ll appreciate the balance of flavors and the perfect consistency of the curry sauce. The atmosphere is simple but inviting, and the service is quick and friendly. You can tell they put a lot of care into their food, and it definitely shows. I can’t wait to come back and try more of the menu! If you’re in Chinatown and looking for a delicious, hearty meal that won’t break the bank, Ken-Chan Curry is the place to go. Highly recommend!
