Honestly I have no idea how this restaurant has such a good rating and so many good reviews. We went to the restaurant on Valentine's Day and this was such a disappointment that we decided not to finish up the food and save some stomach for desserts. We ordered the Kimchi Pancake, Korean BBQ with Premium Beef Short Ribs and Spicy Chicken. I at least go to KBBQ once every month and have tried at least 7 different KBBQ restaurants around Sydney. This Premium Beef Short Ribs ($42) was the WORST I've ever tried. My favourite was to dip the premium beef into just salts, so I can taste how good and juicy the meat is. However, this one had a really weird smell and taste, almost similar to when you put too much cooking wine in your dishes. However, when we checked with the waitress, they said there was nothing added to the meat. I guess it was just the meat itself being bad quality then. It is just unacceptable how expensive this is compared to the quality. The I would give 3.5 stars to the Kimchi Pancake and spicy chicken. The Kimchi Pancake was quite crispy and the spicy chicken was ok. I don't normally give restaurant such a low rating, but this has been such a terrible experience for me. I would ask everyone to reconsider other options if you want some premium kbbq experience.

(3.5 stars) Just when I was starting to think good value could only be found in Burwood, Haymarket struck back with Dae Jang Kum Korean BBQ. Perfectly placed for dinner after a film, this popular Korean restaurant decked out in traditional blonde wood, boasts a late night (12am) kitchen. Super friendly floor staff seat us immediately, setting us up with seven bowls of banchan shortly after we place our order. We kick our late night meal off with a super-sized jeon: a fluffy seafood pancake ($25) studded with octopus and prawns. A hot stone bowl ($23) of beef bibimbap with a cheese ($4) add-on isn’t the tastiest or best version I’ve tried. However it’s hot and comforting on a cold night, and, after the ravages of lockout laws then COVID-19, I’m grateful to be able to eat honest, healthy food after ten o’clock at night. We wrap our meal with a half serve of spicy fried chicken with rice cake ($25). Glistening with sticky red sauce the nicely cooked boneless hunks of bird are slightly too sweet for me, saved by a good level of spiciness underneath. They suit Kloud ($7) Korean beer. Portions here are generous, but takeaway containers are happily supplied.

After a super hot day, I wanted some cold noodles to reinvigorate myself. When I first walked in, the hostess didn't seem that happy to see me? Maybe she was tired that day but I felt slightly unwelcome. I ordered the mul naengmyeon, went to the washroom, and when I came out the side dishes were all on my table. Not gonna lie, I've never seen a lot of these before. My fave was probably the daikon one, but bc I don't like onions I didn't finish any of the onions and they also only gave 2 slices of daikon. I only finished the kimchi and pasta. The others were meh, and I was also way too full from my noodles to attempt to finish everything. As for the cold noodles, I was expecting ice cold noodles (the menu also said it's in an ice broth). But when it came, it was only slightly colder than room temp. Even the water they give you was colder than the noodles. I was actually so disappointed, and even adding a lot of vinegar didn't help. I still had to finish bc I don't like wasting food, but I wasn't really enjoying it. I did like the pear slices tho, and the noodles were bouncy and chewy but not too chewy that you'd choke on them.

We are actually regulars but this most recent experience made me feel like we needed to do a review.

Their ground level is quite well lite and easy access, the food is good - a note is that if you decide to order BBQ you’ll require to order at least 2 kinds - therefore we usually order their precooked hot food. There’s loads of choices and they’re quite good!

I used to order their spicy octopus, which is amazing but I think they have taken that off their menu - which is a pity!

The need to do a review isn’t about their food, more about their service and atmosphere. I usually go with my husband but my mum was in town so I took her.

They seated us up on level 2, up the stairs which is quite dark and they gave us a table right next to their speaker - which was SUPER LOUD!

I understand that is their vibe, I asked their waiter if they could turn the speaker down slightly which he went over and did. The moment he walked away, the manager on the 2nd level put the volume back up again, which made our experience very loud and unpleasant as I was hoping to show my mum from overseas their good food.

What I felt was the manager was not being understanding of their guests experience and rude for turning the music back up when we seated next to the speaker has asked to be turned down slightly for our comfort. Service was not good upstairs, so I urge if you decide to go and they give you seats upstairs - best to come back when they have seats downstairs - especially if you’re visiting with family.

I would recommend a quieter place if you’d like to chat with your friends over a drink with Korean BBQ or ask to be...

We came in to dine as a family with one underaged person (myself, my wife and her sister who she’s taking care of while her parents are away) as soon as we walked in the door there was immediate disrespect and lack of acknowledgement from the upstairs manager. We have eaten many times here before but have never had this level of disrespect and blatant racism (I am not Korean and neither is my wife) we placed our order anyways because we know the food and we typically enjoy it and have a good time. We also placed an order for soju as we usually do with our meals excluding the minor. She didn’t bring it out and ontop of that once I asked she refused to give us allcohol at all. Even though we are well over the age. She claimed the RSA and a few other reason which didn’t make sense if you read the liquor licence on restaurants serving alcohol and what it clearly states. Then she continued to accuse my wife saying “I don’t know if she will give some to her sister” and then proceeded to state we can give you beer but not soju… meanwhilst the multiple families sitting in the rest of the store were all indulging in bottles and bottles of alcohol with kids as young as 8years old. Because of this whole ordeal we didn’t even get to touch our food and she then exclaimed “you can leave if you want”

Absolutely horrendous behaviour and mismanagement of this facility we have many memories from the past.

Do not recommend unless you’re Korean or over the age of...
