Had lunch over at Kuali Malaysla. This little eatery lies jus along the Old Northern Rd at Balkham Hills.
The place is not very big, probably big enough for about 15pax. Simple decor, tables n chairs, nothing fanciful.
Ordered the Wat Tan Hor and curry puffs. Both were great! The WTH (or Hor Fun as we call it back home) was tasty. Unfortunately, it only came with 1 prawn.
The puffs were also tasty n delicious. The fillings of potato were adequate and fragrant. The outer crust was crispy.
Price wise, I reckoned it's about the usual throughout Syd. Ambience, the place was nothing to shout about, located within a small retail mall. Parking is ample behind the mall.
We went back the nx day to try their laksa and was also attracted to it. Gravy was thick n flavourful while the noodles had a good bite to it.
Service was generally OK, but don't expect anything more. I would think this is a prefect place to get that asian fix if you are...
Read moreWe are so happy to find a good Malaysian place in the hills. I have seen this place as we drive past and knew it was was small but still risked a walk in. When we arrived it looked like we were out of luck as it was packed, but we were ushered in to the last remaining table. We ordered curry puffs and the sticky eggplant for starters. The eggplant was amazing. Sticky, crispy crunch and cooked well. The curry puffs were nice but perhaps would have benefited from a dipping sauce. For mains we ordered curry chicken, beef rendang, and the stir fry broccoli with garlic. Both currys were delicious but personally we would have preferred more spice. The broccoli was outstanding and worth a return just based on this dish. Service was friendly and we were offered sambal which did help provide the spice we were chasing. Will return to sample more dishes, especially the Laksa which looks good. Please consider adding roti...
Read more‘If we come again, let’s just get the thigh chicken curry share plate,’ I say, preferring its zingy notes to the one-note heat of the chunky beef rendang and the watery laksa broth.
As we eat the vermicelli noodle laksa - served with tofu puffs, bean sprouts and large skin-on chicken breast pieces - a man steps in and hands some cash to the owner. ‘This is for the chicken,’ he says. ‘Oh, thank you,’ says the smiling owner.
The Malayan menu includes entrees between $10 and $15. The aubergine starter has a crunchy sweet chilli kick, but for $11.80 I’d like a few more pieces. Vegetable mains are a tad cheaper than the meat and seafood options, which are around $20, and prawn crackers will set you back $6.50. Not every dish is on target, but we haven’t found a better local Malay option yet - and the food arrives steaming hot in generous portions. We leave satisfied, with...
