The sausage rolls (choice of beef, pork, or lamb) and pies are hand made on the premises, delicious, and reasonably priced. The chocolate croissants are the real thing. I haven't dared to try any more of their sweets, but they look yum. And the espresso is pleasantly rich. The owner(?) is there in the afternoons for hours after the cafe closes, working in the kitchen area, presumably preparing things for use the next morning.
The staff, seemingly mostly from France, are friendly and provide great service.
COVID-cautious customers can make use of the high table set up along the frontage of the shop where there's plenty of fresh air and breeze to "dine out" at a restaurant without dining completely "in". It's nice to have the option do that occasionally even if I usually just take away.
I'd give a score of 4 for atmosphere only because Belmore Road, that the front table looks out on, is a pretty busy street, making that particular table not the most restful place to linger. But I give the rest of the atmosphere a 5 for providing a traditional European cafe experience in the midst of so many more trendy, "hip" cafes that have a completely different vibe...
Read moreWe ordered a veggie breakfast and a big breakfast with two coffees and the wait was agonisingly long. Coffees only came after about 20mins and the food took close to an hour to get to us.
Service was nice.. staff were polite.. there weren’t a lot of staff but in contrast there wasn’t a great deal of foot traffic either - although the cafe was decently filled with customers.
Coffees were acceptable - decent, however the food was very average..
Big breakfast, no chorizo in sight but swapped out for a mystery beef patty that was too heavily seasoned.
Veggie breakfast seemed random in its composition and honestly, the wait was so long I don’t even remember what we ordered or what was meant to be in our order.
I try to support local/small businesses but I would be lying if I felt the urge to come back...
Read moreHad the worst experience in Sydney. My partner and I went there to have breakfast on Sunday morning and the cafe wasn't too busy. There where only 3/4 people having breakfast. We ordered our breakfast with coffees and had to wait almost 40 minutes, and the waiter bring us only my partner's order which was a big breakfast. The eggs where overcooked and the chorizo was Burned. I couihave my poched eggs because they said " we don't have any more poached eggs" we doesn't make sense because you cajust needs eggs, so this means they doid not know how to do that and they told me after almost 1 hour. We have already paid $42 but I didn't even asked for a refund and just walked out. We had to find another cafe to have breakfast and it was almost lunch time. What a miserable experience. please stay away...
