Luxe Cafe — Restaurant in Sydney

I hardly ever leave reviews, but I have to say that in my four years in Sydney I have never been received as badly as I did at Modina today.

We were seven people grabbing breakfast together before going to the aquarium. Our initial experience was pleasant; we got a table, had it cleaned, and got water immediately. We then got a different waitress. From the get go this new waitress was just uncomfortable to talk to. When our drinks later arrived we found that two people did not receive what they ordered, or what was advertised in images, or described in menu. From my understanding now, my friends ordered an item that is no longer part of the menu. For context; a freak shake was ordered, and it looked nothing like the other freak shakes. Normally this is tolerable as long as the shake is good, but to someone who came to this place specifically for a freak shake and who was having high expectations due to the fantastic photos this was a disappointment. We were even told by the rude waitress that the images on the menu are not a reflection of the items when prepared. To quote; “it’s just an image”. Our rude waitress, when the incorrect order was pointed out to her, responded with attitude so bad my friend broke down CRYING. We were not rude to the staff; we just pointed out a mistake. Even when my friend was crying we kept getting attitude from the waitress, and no understanding at all. She then just left. With one waiter and two waitresses serving us, not one offered a replacement or solution. We also had to push for a refund.

On top of this, I was charged for something that we never ordered. An item was added to our tab after our order had been taken and processed; I know this because my initial receipt did not match my final one. An item was also marked up, but I was helped with fixing this. We were told the added item that we never ordered would not be part of the final cost, but it was. My partner later went back and got a refund for this, and according to him the person who spoke to him was easy and calm to deal with. Thank you!

The food was for the most part good. But when you have staff with bad attitude toward guests, and they let things go this bad without a solution, good food doesn’t matter. This drama made us miss out on the aquarium, too. Just...

We chose to eat here because the sign said cafe/grill/bar, which we thought was a great range and were expecting a nice atmosphere on a Saturday.

We walked in to the sever greeting us with ‘yes?’. When ordering the server also said ‘yes?’ To take our order. The dining area was crammed, with 2 large tables making a busy corridor for staff to walk through every 10-20 seconds. Made it very uncomfortable being bumped on the back and my chair kicked frequently (by accident).

Our drinks were in plastic cups when we could see glass cups available for water. Another table had kids ice cream served in round, plastic takeaway containers.

The dining room felt dirty and the toilets were disgusting.

The menu had a good range of meals available.

The food was very good, with large portions and very well priced. It was a slow wait considering the dining room was only 1/2 full at the time. Other staff did come to check if our meals were good whilst we were eating which we appreciated.

Overall, we enjoyed the food, but felt very awkward sitting...
