Mecca Bah Sydney - A Delightful Waterfront Experience!
This was our first time at Mecca Bah Sydney. It offers a fantastic dining experience, especially with its beautiful waterfront setting. The ambiance is vibrant yet relaxed, making it perfect for a special evening out. The gentle breeze and the scenic views really elevate the meal.
We tried a selection of their dishes, and here's a breakdown:
House-Made Trio Of Dips (★★★★★) Absolutely stellar! The dips were incredibly fresh and flavorful, each with its own distinct character. The beetroot hummus was creamy and offered a delightful tang. The black baba ganoush was smoky and labneh was wonderful. Served with warm, fluffy bread, it was the perfect start to our meal. The presentation was simple but elegant, letting the dish spraks for itself. One of my personal favourites.
Lamb Sigara Boureks (★★★★) These crispy, cigar-shaped pastries were a true highlight. Filled with tender, spiced lamb, they were perfectly golden brown and had a satisfying crunch with every bite. The seasoning on the lamb was spot on, savory and aromatic without being overpowering. I found the portion size to be small.
Garlic Chicken Kebab (★★★★) The chicken kebab was tender and juicy, infused with a lovely garlic flavor. While delicious, it was perhaps a bit more subtle in its spice profile compared to some of the other bolder dishes. It was well-cooked and aesthetically pleasing, with perfectly grilled chicken pieces. A solid choice for those who prefer a milder flavor.
Harissa Lamb Shish (★★★★) This dish packed a nice punch! The lamb shish was succulent and had a good char from the grill, with the harissa adding a wonderful warmth and depth of flavor. It had a pleasant spicy kick that lingered nicely. The presentation was appealing, with the vibrant red of the harissa-marinated lamb standing out. It was very good, but just shy of perfection for a 5-star rating.
Moroccan Spit Roasted Lamb pizza (★★★★★) My favourite. Marinated spit roasted lamb, drizzled with a creamy mint yoghurt & topped with mozzarella, fresh rocket and sumac on a bed of homemade kofta sauce presented in a pizza forn. It was richly flavored with aromatic spices, creating a truly authentic and comforting taste. The portion was generous and the dish provided a delightful texture contrast. Aesthetically, it was presented as a hearty, inviting dish that looked as good as it tasted.
Overall, Mecca Bah Sydney delivers on taste, atmosphere, and service. The waterfront dining adds an extra layer of charm, making it a highly recommended spot for anyone looking for a memorable meal...
Read moreThe food was mostly great but unfortunately that's where it ends. I was in a group of 14 with a set menu and every course was delicious except for the Wagyu Kafta balls which were very undercooked.
I was one of the first in our group to arrive. Upon entereing, the wait staff kindly took our birthday cake to the fridge and advised me of the $25 cake few - no problem. Our booking was for 8pm. Everyone had arrived within 15min of the booking time and we had notified wait staff we were ready to begin even with only half the group present. Entrees came out gradually from 9pm onwards. Mains from 10pm onwards (they close at 10 on Saturday and we were also yet to receive dessert and the cake we surrendered earlier). On top of the wait, they had the audacity to inform us that the kitchen will be closing at 10, if we want to order anything else. We told the waitress we still haven't received our mains and she didn't seem too worried. When the mains finally came, I was impressed. I had the pomegranate glazed short ribs and they were just perfect.
The waitress came back to tell us to let her know when we're ready for dessert - we did but we still waited until past 11. During that wait, we were shocked to find that our cake was being delivered to the wrong table! Thankfully the other table were kind enough to let them know it's not their cake but they had already lit candles and sung happy birthday over it. I understand that mistakes happen and can be forgiven but the apparent lack of care and remorse from the staff was appalling - we had to go up to them multiple times to notify them of issues with our service and negotiate compensation. We also weren't keen to accept a cake that had been delivered to another table - we don't know if they spat on it while singing happy birthday - but the wait staff insisted it's okay and kindly offered a secondary cake which was nice of them.
Both cakes and the dessert didn't come out until past 11. At this point, most of the restaurant was vacant and the staff were switching lights and music off which made for a very unwelcoming and frustrating surprise birthday party experience. I know it's not easy to manage such big crowds that the restaurant was dealing with yesterday on a Saturday night but unfortunately too many mishaps added up to an overall...
Read moreFood was tasty. Service was the biggest disappointment and downfall for this venue. Booked in for an anniversary dinner we were excited for but wished we picked someone else to spend our special night. Was greeted at the door. Host didn’t have my booking on the piece of paper that was apparently printed at 5pm our booking was at 8pm so they gave us a table. Once sitting on our table was greeted by a waiter who took our orders. Ordered drinks and all our food. We had received our entree and drink. We were waiting on our mains for 50 mins. A table that was seated and ordered after us had gotten all their food including mains. Tried to get any waiters attention was ignored. Not once did a waiter check up on us. Once I got a waiters attention I had mentioned that we had been waiting for our mains for a long time and expressed our frustration. She didn’t come back to me to let me know how long it would be. Got out of my chair to talk to the host at the front door. Told her I had been waiting for mains for a very long time she said she would check. Waiter came back and said it would be 4mins. That 4 minutes was more like 10 mins. Another table next to us was taking Photos on 2 cameras by 2 different people in front of me every 2 seconds of our seating time the flash was so intense that I had to ask them politely to stop. Really wanted to order desert and more drinks but with the service being so poor I went to another restaurant next door Alegre restaurant and had desert and more drinks. The owned really needs to shape up their staff on sequence of service. Many staff working and being hands on but no connection with customers tables being forgotten about which should be priority if you want your guests to have a good experience. Not angry just disappointed and I think this feed back could be very useful to you. Unfortunately will not be coming back and not recommending this restaurant to...
