Another racist establishment that is White- and White-Wash-Only after 8pm. Another establishment that refuses entry for no real reason because the real reason is HFWB (Having Fun While Black). Too many of us know this situation all too well, and I've had enough. My Nigerian boyfriend said hello to the security guard and the security guard decided I was too intoxicated, and refused us entry. I had not even been drinking. They were also going to refuse my boyfriend's Indian co-worker but he said he was able to sneak past. My boyfriend's White co-workers were obviously blind drunk, and they were allowed in. One of my boyfriend's White co-workers were told, "If you separate yourself from them, we'll let you in". The manager asked us how we were and how was our night, we said, "good", and the manager decided not to let us in because he wasn't "getting the right vibe off us". What's more disappointing is that when this happens, the security guards and managers are usually from a minority group themselves. They are suffering from racial bias, deindividuation, groupthink, and blind obedience. It's upsetting, and they were going to call the police, and it is my prediction that the police would have checked the situation for them. But who is checking them? I am. I have reported them to governing bodies for discrimination and racism. I say, storm these places with all your ethnicity! I say, if these establishments do not give a consistent reason for refusing entry, everyone in the establishment should ban together and leave as a sign of support. But I know 60% of you won't because 60% of Australia showed their true colours on the recent referendum. The manager and security guards are incompetent and require training. I think it's so ridiculous that this establishment appropriates Mexican culture but keeps the atmosphere White. If you find yourself in this situation just know you can put in a formal complaint at Anti-Discrimination NSW, just make sure to collect written evidence...
Read moreMe and my two friends tried to go into slip inn to go to the toilet before heading to Chinese laundry. My friend and I get in because we live in Sydney, my one friend who lives in Adelaide got denied entry because he “didn’t have a second form of ID” despite saying he did and presenting it to security (also might I add he is covered in tattoos). The manager then came and said my friend was “raising his voice” so she denied him entry. We said stuff this, we’ll just go to Chinese laundry and then the MOD turned said to us and said “you’re not getting in there” and stormed off to tell the MOD of Chinese laundry. I’ve worked hospo over the last 5 yrs especially nightclubs and I’ve never seen treatment like this. I understand if the patron was being aggressive or disorderly but my friend was being neither. I am more than happy to take this higher considering the manager present wasn’t happy to discuss. I talked to the licensee “Chris” briefly and he said he was happy to discuss the issue. Chris happened to be preoccupied at the time and the manager on duty at the slip inn came out to have a go at my friend and I when we were waiting patiently and peacefully to talk to Chris with his permission as well. This manager was having a power trip and that was blatant. Again, I’ve worked in hospo, especially late night/nightclub and this is the first time I’ve ever been compelled to complain or even to take this higher. If I don’t get a response or a solution I will be taking this higher. I just want to express how disappointing and dissatisfied this whole scenario has made me feel, I have only a couple nights with my closest friends from around Australia and it is ruined because some woman decided to have a power trip. Thank you for...
Read moreIf I could give 0 stars I would - my friends and I had a horrible experience. We didn’t even go to the venue for the drinks - one of our other friends needed food and that happened to be the closest establishment which also served food. As we were lining up to get in, security asked us all for 2 forms of ID which was fair enough, but one of my friends didn’t have the service nsw app on her phone but did have her physical drivers licence, and bank card as a second form of ID. The security was about to let her in but then an older lady dressed in all white (I’m guessing a manager of some sort) stormed out and demanded my friend download the service nsw app and set it up - or else she wouldn’t be allowed in. She was very intimidating and had a disgusting attitude towards our whole group even though the rest of us had been cleared by the other security. In light of this and her horrific treatment of us we decided our money would be better spent elsewhere - as we were not even going in for drinks only food. As we were leaving the manager did not stop with her remarks, yelling things like “I can’t blame you girls for trying” and “we all did it once” insinuating our other friend was underage and trying to get in illegally - a disgusting claim as we were all over the age of 18. I completely understand turning us away if we did not have sufficient proof we were of age - but not letting us in purely because my friend did not have the service NSW app was wrong - and intimidating and calling out to us after was disgusting especially as an older lady to a bunch of young girls. Truly horrific treatment will...
