Very disappointed experience!! According to staff, Chef Tan no longer heads the kitchen. The manager/guy behind the counter collecting the money was rude and not fit to be in the Food and Beverage business. He was argumentative with the customer, not courteous and polite to customer criticism. We had the "WAT TAN HOR (KWAY TEOW SIRAM) 16.80" to start. This was OK nothing special. You can get the same dish at other Malaysian establishments. Dish was a little on the small side and lacking seafood (only one prawn). For Mains we ordered Fish head curry, Kam Heong Prawns, Baby Squid Sambal and Eggplant salted fish. The fish head curry, I felt cheated it was not a fish head curry. No fish head to be seen in the curry. The menu said fish head curry and you will not get fish head curry. This is blatant false advertising selling fish head curry on the menu when it is clearly no fish head in the curry. When we asked the manage/guy collecting the money, he was defensive and rude to us. He was stating that 90% of their customers do not like the bones of the fish head. Basically I don't see how this is our concern. We ordered fish head curry and did not get it. As for the rest of the dishes it was good but still a little expensive for the type of restaurant it is (looks more like lunch time take away place). Proper Chinese/Malaysian restaurants do not charge the amount found at Malacca Straits on Broadway. I will not go there again. I can get similar or better quality Malaysian food elsewhere. Why go to a subpar establishments for rude service and mediocre food.

Had dinner at Malacca Straits on Broadway and it was such a good experience. The staff were lovely and really accommodating, our waiter even added an extra table so we could sit in the sun, which we really appreciated. The food came out quickly and everything was packed with flavour. We started with the roti and chicken curry. The roti was crispy on the outside, soft inside, and perfect for scooping up the rich, tasty curry. We also had this beef roti pouch (can’t remember the exact name) but the sauce it came with was amazing. So flavourful and comforting. The char kway teow with prawns was full of that smoky wok flavour, and the prawns were fresh and generous in portion. The salted eggplant might’ve been the unexpected favourite crispy, creamy and just full of that salty, addictive flavour. Highly recommend if you’re craving Malaysian food and want great service to go with it.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Malacca Straits, a true gem within the Sydney city. If you're looking for an authentic and unforgettable Malaysian dining experience, this restaurant should be at the top of your list. The moment I entered the restaurant, my senses were overwhelmed by the sight of servers bustling about with heaping plates of their delectable menu, I was transported to the vibrant, bustling streets of Malaysia, where the rich and diverse culinary traditions come alive.

The attentive and friendly staff made me feel right at home. Their knowledge of the menu and willingness to guide me through the selections was greatly appreciated. It's evident that they take pride in delivering exceptional service, which enhances the overall dining experience. Furthermore, our culinary journey took an intriguing turn when the chef surprised us with a recommendation that had not yet found its place on the menu. This delightful surprise not only showcased the chef's creativity and culinary prowess but also added an element of exclusivity to our dining experience. It was as though we were privy to a carefully guarded secret, a culinary treasure waiting to be discovered. This unexpected culinary revelation exemplified the restaurant's commitment to constantly pushing the boundaries and offering its patrons an ever-evolving, unforgettable gastronomic adventure.

Now, let's talk about the star of the show—the food! Their menu takes your taste buds on a journey through Malaysia's diverse and tantalizing flavors. The extensive menu showcases classic Malaysian dishes, street food favorites, and regional specialties. Some highlights that I had the pleasure of savoring included:

Char Kway Teow: The wok hei (breath of the wok) in this stir-fried flat rice noodle dish is truly spectacular. The balance of sweet and savory flavors, with plump prawns and tender chicken, is irresistible.

Roti Canai: The light and flaky flatbread, served with a rich curry sauce, is an absolute delight. A perfect starter to whet your appetite.

Hainanese Chicken Rice: Tender poached chicken, fragrant rice, and an array of dipping sauces make for a comforting and satisfying dish.

Beef Rendang: The slow-cooked beef rendang was a flavor explosion. From the tenderness of the meat, to the spices, depth, and complexity of this dish, truly carved a tasteful masterpiece.

Ayam Percik Kelantan: A highly praised crowd-favorite (and a personal guilty pleasure of mine), is an absolute delight at Malacca Straits. The tender chicken, served with an aromatic gravy of turmeric, galangal and lemongrass, flame-grilled to perfection, resulting in a dish that's both succulent and bursting with flavor. The rich, sweet, and slightly tangy sauce takes it to another level, making it an irresistible treat for the taste buds. This dish is a true testament to the authenticity and excellence of Malaysian cuisine. Don't miss the chance to savor the Ayam Percik Kelantan – it's a flavor-packed experience that's bound to leave you craving for more!

In summary, Malacca Straits is a culinary haven for those seeking an authentic and memorable Malaysian dining experience. The exquisite flavors, warm ambiance, and impeccable service combine to create a dining experience that is truly top-notch. Whether you're a Malaysian food enthusiast or a newcomer to this delightful cuisine, Chef Tan and his fleet of exceptional staff at Malacca Straits create a perfect place to explore and savor the diverse culinary heritage of Malaysia. It's a five-star destination that I will eagerly return to, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an exceptional...
