Barely 4 stars and I'm being generous. The renovations have been aplenty and the aesthetics have improved very much so, sleak new screen feature at the main lobby and lots of extensions and details that give it a fresh new aspect, however, the new trendy Boardroom Beach Bar needs attention, although it may look like lots of fun with a trendy crowd and the happening place to be in Maroubra Beach, the live music is so excessively loud, it deafens the main lobby area to an extreme level, one cannot hear what the receptionist says from across the bench, those poor receptionists must be at their wits end, it's actually extremely unnerving and note; that this is coming from someone who travels to party, clubs and party's hard, but something needs to be done about the acoustics of the beach bar flooding the main lobby it was awful.
This was early on a Saturday evening so I get the party atmosphere, but still, you need to experience it to understand what I mean, it gives the club an unprofessional faƧade and does not match the serenity of the turquoise ocean water and seals the screens at the lobby are showing. Keep it classy or at least classier!
Also, front reception staff weren't very polite, not so welcoming and somewhat passive-aggressive, was renewing my membership for 5 years at a premium price and got asked rudely to move aside by one of the young men, although I can understand they must be stressed from working under that intense and constant noise from the beach bar. Simply rude.
The bistro on level 1 serves amazing food, lots of variety and at great prices, members get even further discounts and if you're lucky or wait, you can even get ocean view tables, the down point is the waiter and waitress staff are a little too over rushed, look stressed and have little or no courtesy or customer service skills, they dumped our garlic bread starters on the table without uttering a word or even making eye contact, felt very unnecessary and they could do better in at least saying "enjoy" or "your starters" and then walk away. Some table service/customer courtesy tips and training could help here, we don't expect the Shangri-La silver service for an $18 dish, but at least to get some dignity served along with the meal.
This evening's experience was worthy of 3 stars but gave it 4 for the great food, great portions and the super courteous, smiling and friendly bar staff at the bar on Level 1. Overall, a great club with plenty...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAbsolutely disgusted with the treatment that a friend of mine received at this club. My Aboriginal friend is a bus driver for a charity organisation, and took a group of 12 senior citizens and 2 staff (including himself being staff) to the club for lunch. He was discriminated against and was not being let into the club by the lady at the front. She also told him that there should be 2 staff looking after the seniors and not just one. He explained to her that he had to park the bus and then return to help the seniors and that there were 2 staff looking after them including himself.
He called his supervisor and asked the lady to speak to the supervisor, and this lady refused. His supervisor then called the lady at the club to discuss the issues and ask to speak to her manager, and she was hung up on abruptly and rudely.
I would never recommend this club to anyone, unless this staff member has been removed from the front.
My friend felt that he was targeted due to his ethnicity, that she was rude and abrupt and not accountable for her terrible customer service. It made him feel terrible. It was a quiet day there and this group of seniors and staff spent a lot of money at the club that day. They should have been grateful that they were even there considering how quiet it was. With an attitude like that, I am not surprised how quiet it...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFood is reasonably priced with an interesting selection š! The best thing about the club is the 5 āāāāā ocean views from the eating places and the gym which is a bit warn and blokey. There is also an indoor pool which is OK if you don't look at the glass or the waterline around the pool. The change rooms are reasonably clean but the showers never work properly. Get the plumber back!
There's one shared steam room, often standing room only and comes with some hygiene issues such as the smell similar to walking past a men's public toilet (I kid you not). There are also signs saying not to take any oils into the steam room (eucalyptus oil I am guessing is probably used to deaden the smell) with a sign with the threat of being banned if you are caught with oil as well as asking members to 'dob' on other members who bring in oils! Good to see sign about not shaving in the steam room has gone!
I also agree with comments that some staff are not so good with members. I saw a male staff member harass a female club member - obviously he entered the workforce prior to the invention of 'client service.'
Basically if you are into old, white, male from the 70's era who likes blokey environments, this is the club for you. With such a good...
