Came here for a steak, never again. I was kinda hoping Mike's grill would have learned a little from the previous chef at club on east, but no. I ordered a medium rare steak with chips and a side of gravy. I received a well done steak, with chips and a salad. The gravy was so jellified that it sat, stuck on top of my steak wobbling like a team of sumo wrestlers. I scraped it off and it came off almost complete, unbroken. I was quite happy about that but when I saw the lump of coal they called a rump steak underneath I understood why they did it. I also remembered why I never went back to them when they were down the road. This chef cannot cook a steak, despite having a reasonably large range of steaks on the menu, including more on the specials. Each being more expensive than the last. I would never consider it again, and club on east have lost my dining custom. I grew up in a poor area where we always asked for a lump of coal for Christmas, seems I got my Christmas wish here. I was considering not taking the rest home for my dog but the Mrs decided otherwise, and in her defence, she knows our dog, he will eat anything. Lucky really because after going back once to remove the salad, I didn't feel like going back again. Service outside of the restaurant was great, the club is great but their choice of restaurants leaves a lot to be desired. I guess Mike's just realised they could make more money faster at the club and jumped at the chance, and I guess the club staff have never ordered a steak from Mike's before they came to the club. Hope this review is helpful and starts turning the wheels of...
Read moreI've been eating at Mike's Grill 2-3 times a week for several years. Food has always been great and the staff have been kind. Today I went in, ordered my food and tried to buy a coke zero from the bar, they were out. So I went to a corner shop and got one (as I've done many times when they have no stock). Mid way through my meal I was approached and asked to leave as the coke zero I was drinking wasn't purchased from the bar, even though they didn't have it in stock. I tried to apologise for my ignorance but he said "there's a bar here too. They sell drinks, you know" I don't think I've ever been treated like that at any restaurant before. I left my food, half eaten, and walked out. Thanks for the good food in the past, but I'll be finding somewhere else for lunch. If anyone has any suggestions on a place close by that does a lunch special, I'd love to hear about it.
Edit: Separate in what way? Different owners? Different name? Big deal, the fact is that my meal was interrupted by someone who claimed responsibility over the area where your customers dine. He even tried to take the drink from me. Thinking about it still makes my blood boil. I don't see how anything can be done but if you believe you can somehow rectify the situation - I'd love to hear more. Is there an email address where I can privately send my...
Read moreI and my wife had rip eye medium ($55), and scotch fillet medium well-done($50). rip eye steak came out as rare, and scotch fillet came out as over-cooked well-done even being burned.
I complained about rip eye medium state, and the chef took it and cooked more. It came out after a while as well-done now. Even rip eye was quite dried, and hard to chew.
The scotch fillet was super over cooked, and the steak was like a stone(very dried) after about 5 minutes. Also it tasted like burned charcoal, but nothing else. While I'm writing this, I can still taste the burned taste inside my mouth. I did complained about this, but they didn't do anything other than saying sorry, although I know there is nothing to do to correct it since it is already too overcooked. We barely finished the half of it, then gave up finishing it.
Seriously, this restaurant's chef doesn't know how to cook steak at all. I strongly believe even meat was not even pre-processed to tenderise it. It completely ruined our dinner. The place was quite busy when I ordered it, but that's can't be an excuse.
How can RIP EYE and SCOTCH FILLET be so so dried as a steak? It is even hard to do so.
I am never going to this restaurant to have...
