I love finding little gems that locals love and am so pleased to have discovered Kelby's. It has been around for many years and the past 3 years has seen new(ish) owner Moe doing up the interior and creating a new menu that have many traditional dishes with a modern, Middle Eastern flair to them which I love. It was so difficult to make a choice from the interesting menu & specials but first up was the Egyptian breakfast - a slice of sourdough holds sauted sliced sweet potato, rocket, house made hummus, fetta, poached eggs & an AMAZING house made dukkah. It was a healthy flavour bomb and every bite felt nourishing, tasty and comforting.

Next was the beautiful looking Braht Bruschetta. It was a generous pile of delicious colours in the form of  dark green rocket leaves on top of a slice of sourdough topped with grilled white halloumi, bright red tomatoes, dark hued super crispy bacon topped with a fan of sliced avocado, a sprinkling of greenary in the form of shallots & a dark, sticky balsamic glaze drizzled around the plate. It was beautiful to look at and the flavours danced beautifully in the mouth.

One of the specials chosen was the green eggs - pesto scrambled eggs was super flavoursome topped with rich, oily smoked salmon & 2 poached eggs. It's a little twist on the traditional & it was super tasty.

Then comes the French Toast. It was my first time having Turkish French toast and this was the perfect bread to use. It was not overly eggy and the soft sponge of bread soaked up all the delicious flavours in this dish from the caramelised bananas to the crispy, salty bacon & the sticky maple syrup. It was also my first time having bacon in a sweet dish and OMG what have I been missing out on all this time??? It was so delicious and the contrast in flavour and texture of the crispy bacon & soft bread and banana was sensational.

To finish off, we had the crumpets with whipped cream and house made jam. Loved all the berries in the jam & the fact that it wasn't too sweet, more like a thick compote and you can taste the quality of the ingredients used instead of just sugar. The house made carrot cake came as individual rounds and were dense, moist and the perfect size for a treat. Perfect with their really well made coffees.

No wonder this cafe is heaving with people and are busy weekdays and weekends alike. It has fantastic tasting and looking food, super friendly service from not only the staff but also the owner Moe who smiles and checks on all the customers. It's also very family and kids friendly with a kids' room/play area out the back with toys and books. Oh and did I mention the great food and super crispy bacon?...

Kelby's Cafe is wonderful in every respect: location, decor, space, food, coffee, and staff. Let me elaborate further.

Kelby's is an easy 5-minute walk from Marrickville station. It's located on one of the main streets, Marrickville Road, so it's perfect for whenever you want to go for a wander after some food and coffee.

The interior of the cafe is beautiful, neat, charming and there is ample dining space. Lots of natural lighting, comfortable seating, and I never felt uncomfortably close to the person next to me. There are also outdoor seating areas. Whether you're coming alone, with one other mate, or bringing your family (as I did), Kelby's can certainly accommodate.

THE FOOD! The portions are enormous - nobody cleared their plates. See photos attached (and yes, they are, obviously, perfectly fit for Instagram). Between the four of us, we had: Egyptian breakfast -- Mum had this one. She's a hard woman to please and she was VERY satisfied. Bravo. Eggs Benedict with salmon -- my Grandma went classic. She was very impressed. French toast with berry compote -- my little cousin had this one. It was the first time he had French toast, and also the first time the little guy had maple syrup! And he loved all of it, of course. Lebanese breakfast -- This is the one I had. It was delicious. So many flavours that complemented each other so well in so many combinations. Zaatar bread + labneh (Greek yoghurt)? Groovy. Zaatar bread + scrambled eggs + zaatar? Wild. What a ride.

As for coffee, the baristas have you sorted. It's quality.

And lastly, the staff are so wonderful. The waitresses are very kind, sweet, considerate, and the baristas know their craft well.

You'll be well looked after at Kelby's. I can't wait to go back...
