I had been to this joint on a few occasions over about a 15yr period, but only ever for Yum Cha, and always found it pretty good, dumpling in particular. Decent Yum Cha in Sydney is quite easy to find however my Mrs and I had struggled to find good regular dinner / evening meals and service of a high standard. Post covid a lot of joints shut up shop; all three of our regular haunts in Chinatown East Ocean , Golden Century and our favourite 'Golden Harbour' which I had frequented once a week for over 30yrs and for many significant birthdays AND even a few family Christmas days ! We've been on the hunt for a good replacement, we've tried FiveDock , Newtown, Petersham, Haberfield even Burwood - NO JOY ! On a hunch from my good experience with yum cha at Hung Cheung we tried it for dinner... The search is now over ! WE JUST LOVE IT ! Super fresh ,super tasty - curries have the right amount of CURRY not dumbed down to a bogan pensioners taste as with the other spicy dishes. All the fried goodies: spring rolls , prawn cutlets, chicken wings are nice and crispy in fresh oil and well drained - not greasy at all. The prices are seriously like the 90's. We wanna support and encourage them so we pay cash which they're stoked about and you get a few buck off too. We've had some pretty big get togethers with a significant amount of wine and beer being drunk ....eaten like kings and usually get out of it for about $40 or $50 a head - dessert included. All the staff are warm and friendly, and SPECIAL shout out to a young lady called 'Hayden' who's just delightful and is happy to guide you around the menu and introduce you to some Chinese delicacies you may not have even known about - last night we got a calander from her, and a bit of a run down on how our individual Chinese horoscopes are gonna pan out in 2025 ! Sorry about the 'rant' but seriously, I'm so stoked to have found my new 'GO TO' place for great chinese food and great service - it's once or twice a...

had a fair amount of dimsum all my life back home in malaysia and singapore so i came here with zero expectations. i must say i was incredibly impressed and satisfied with pretty much everything we ordered especially the siew mai, garlic chicken with chives dumplings and king prawn dumplings as well as the black sesame balls! these are my must-order if i had to recommend any. we got there early around 10:30am on a sunday morning and the crowd was fine until lunch so we didn’t have to wait that long for a table despite being a big group of 7. i like that the place serves dimsum the traditional way in pushing carts but service can definitely do better.

updates on second visit: i was so excited to have my partner who was visiting at the time to try this place out but we ended up leaving the place with utter disappointment and anger. may seem trivial to some but a $2 extra charge was imposed all because we didn’t consume any tea or drinks??? we questioned the staff as soon as we realised from the receipt and the staff responded in a way that made us feel at fault for NOT having a drink? keep in mind that we weren’t even told in the first place that there will be extra charges for not drinking. we thought this was super dishonest and a complete nonsense so BE CAREFUL if you don’t intend to have a drink there...

Food was tasteless at a more than average price. The restaurant staff were impolite, impatient and disrespectful. Would never go back again! If you advertise that you close the restaurant at a certain time, you have to follow it otherwise don't advertise it! Don't tell the customers that they need to hurry to leave at that exact time while they are still eating! If you want to close the restaurant early, at least communicate it with customers upon arrival! Customers pay for food and service, I felt like my money didn't deserve to go to your business at all!

The restaurant closes at 11pm, we got there last night at 10pm. While we were eating at 10.25pm, we were asked to go to the cashier and pay in the middle of our dinner. At 10.45pm we were told the restaurant was closing, I asked the lady if the restaurant closes at 11pm she said they are closing now and we needed to finish. We just put the food we were eating halfway on a takeaway container and left since we just didn't want to be at the restaurant any longer. Would never come back again and will tell everyone we know not to try the restaurant due to their horrible food...

😍You know this old school yumcha spot @newkeungkee_hungcheung is good when our PM Albo has paid them a visit 🇦🇺 And I can honestly say, it’s one of the best in Sydney. Their hargows and shiu mais were plump and juicy and so perfect, and omg the bbq pork pastry is heaven in a bite 🤤 Their cheung fun has excellent filling and texture, and the prawn rolls sets the bar real high 🦐 Their desserts are on another level, like the silky smooth tofu pudding and mango pudding. Their egg tarts are 10 out of 10 📍Hung Cheung in Marrickville 338 Marrickville Road Marrickville #sydneyfoodie #sydneyeats #sydneyfood #sydneyyumcha #sydneyrestaurant #sydneychineserestaurant #yumcha

(3.5 stars) In the middle of moving house, so checked out the local Chinese restaurant near my new abode. Hung Cheung have been plying their Cantonese dishes to the residents of Marrickville since 1991. You don’t stay in business that long unless you’re doing something right. Here it seems to be warm, attentive service with all the add-ons like shortbread style cookies & orange segments to finish; and actually serving your special fried rice ($16.80). The latter is a good exemplar, particularly under Grandma’s tofu with pork mince ($21.80) taken extra hot. Star anise-flavoured duck was the winner on our Cantonese BBQ platter ($38.80), which also included BBQ pork and a super-sweet honey-based sauce. We rounded out our meal scallops with snow peas ($39.80) where still-crunchy greens and fancy-cut carrots mingled with tiny, full-flavoured scallops in a gentle, syrupy sauce. While there are better Cantonese restaurants out there, there’s something comforting about having a competent local where you can drop in on nights when you can’t be bothered cooking. I will no doubt return to check out their yumcha...
