Came here a while back when they first opened and really enjoyed the signature fried pork buns. Our recent however left a sour experience and I don't think I'll come back again. We ordered the siu mai and signature fried pork buns, waited about 40 minutes to finally get the siu mai. Note that this siu mai was sitting as a take away order on the counter for a while and they only realised that it was labelled for our table - the chef then proceeded to flip the take away order out onto a serving plate for us. We continued to wait some more while watching the chef pack more takeaway orders and we gave up when we noticed a table had been served before us even though they had just sat down. Went to ask for a refund for the signature fried pork buns which we were still waiting for and they apologized saying that they were "very busy" despite the restaurant not looking that busy at all. If you really want to order something here I'd recommend just ordering online, seems like online orders are prioritized more than...

Overall: 6/7 Only came here for their sheng jian bao as I’d heard it was authentic Shanghainese style. Coming and trying it, can confirm it gets pretty close to the real thing and is very tasty. Will be sure to come back with more people to try more of their menu, but their bao alone is worth a visit. It is slightly pricey though, but not particular more expensive than other restaurants like Taste of Shang.

Sheng jian bao: 7/7 Banger. Highly rate - very close to what you can get in Shanghai, but obviously more expensive. Completely different from what you get at most places in Sydney, the skin is thin - doesn’t actually taste like a “bao zi”, the filling is very tender with an insane amount of soup inside. So much so that it sprayed across the table when I tried biting into it. Must get at this restaurant, better if you get it freshly cooked (ask for them to cook if fresh if you’re ordering a lot) and with extra...

The best thing was the fried buns. Unlike many places, by the time you finish the buns, you are too full to eat anything else. The buns are delicately made in a wafer thin crispy top, with a descent sized bottom to hold the meat and soup. What you get is a perfectly portioned bun that is bursting with flavour.

I asked the owner where did this recipe came from, and he told me it's an old recipe passed down from generation to generation. As his family has been in the restaurant business for a while, so they have been trying to perfect it. Sadly he wouldn't tell me what it was!! 😥😥

The set menu is a wonderful concept so that you can try out different items. The plum juice is amazing. It works as a cleanser to all the complex flavours you'll experience there. This place isn't just a revelation, it should be a gastronomocial institution.

Just shut up and take my 💰 money Mr Sun!!! I'm coming back for...

Not real claypot rice. I ordered the claypot rice with stewed pork, and it came out in a small aluminum foil container (smaller than the average takeaway container). NOT in a claypot, and tasted microwaved. Stewed pork was 80% fat. Limp lettuce the only veg on the dish. At $18.90, feels a lot like highway robbery. Signature noodle soup with tomato and beef slice tasted like it came out of a no frills can of tinned tomatoes. Mainly noodles, scant, paper thin beef slices. A far cry from authentic versions of tomato noodle soup with beef. Two stars given for the handmade chive, egg and black fungus hand pies. They were freshly made, and the only dish we ate that didn't feel like we were being scammed😅

A nicely decorated restaurant. We had the signature pork fried buns, dry noodle with pork and shallot oil, and wonton soup - my favourite being the buns and noodles. Would definitely come back again and try other dishes from their menu also. Parking was hard to find so I would suggest parking in East Village Shopping Centre and walk two blocks to the restaurant. Update: I've been coming back about once a month and the food has been delicious each time.
