Naruto Japanese Restaurant (Chatswood) 焼肉鳴門 — Restaurant in Sydney

Have tried this place a few times in the past. Though it has been quite some time and decided to give it a go again as there was meant to be new management.

We were seated further in and when the ventilation system turned on, it was unbearably loud that we requested to move. I'm usually not that fussed, but I find barely hear my husband's words. Don't know how you are meant to have a conversation without being extra loud.

Service wasn't great. Seems like the staff was clueless and didn't know what he was doing, standing there looking and pointing and trying to say something but than not.

Food quality was subpar. Salads were not fresh and was premade/frozen. The cabbage literally came out soggy and sitting in water with a squirt of new on top. It smelt off and a quick taste confirmed it. Gave them benefit of doubt and got another later in meal, and same thing again. Meat quality was okay, nothing great, though most were frozen frozen. Also, the Sausages literally came out frozen with icicles, no effort to defrost it..

The rice was not fresh and definitely old rice. My daughter loves rice and refused and didn't end up having anything.

There was unlimited soft drinks which caught our eyes. But than when drinking the drinks we figured out why. Even when opening new bottles of soft drinks, the drinks were as if they were gasless and already open. Buying woolworths home brand would have been better than whatever brand soft drink they provided. If you do eat here, can't go wrong with juice!

The old restaurant, though not great, was definitely much better.

I'm no fancy eater, so to have a review like this really does speak. Very unfortunate, as we were hoping for a better experience.

Well where shall we start...

Lovely security guard at the front. Love the guy. Super nice, friendly and welcoming.

We were seated by the guy at the front desk to a table that was still messy, with the table being all sticky. He just sat us down and he just left us to fend for ourselves to work out how the menu works. So after 15 min of trying to figure out the ipad/ menu, the lovely waitress so us in desperation need of help and assisted us veru nicely. We ordered a few drinks here and there and waited 15 min for it to come, never came. Oh i should also mention that the bell on our table doesnt work. Anyway....

We ordered a few drinks along with out bbq meat. The meat came along after 15min...so it's ok. I mean...it's raw meat. Then no drinks arrived. So then i called upon the waiter with the glasses and he said he would come back. 10 min later, no sight of him. 5 min afterwards, he came back and said "water is self serve". We said that we ordered special drinks. Then he said "ah ok", then left us.....Huh?!?! So we just had water and got soft drinks for the fridge ourselves. Other customers were doing the same.

Now lets talk about the food.

Rice.....how can you screw up rice? Uncle Roger would've been disappointed....You might as well call it a rice pancake at that point...or rice rock. It was so hard...and not to mention, rock solid. See picture for reference. The squid we also had tasted soooooo fishy and old. So we just put it to the side. The rest of the meat (pork and beef) was ok. Anyway...won't be coming to the place again. Horrible overall.

But honestly kudos to the lady who made our experience a little better. Wish i...

Waiters kept forgetting things we ordered and we had to ask several times. Then, some other things came out in multiples when we only ordered 1 or 2. Drinks never came, didn't see a drink station either, but I didn't bother asking the waiter at that point, kind of just wanted to eat and get out and buy a bubble tea. Plates all felt like there was a layer of grease on them, had to wipe them down myself. They were also quite tight with the charcoal, and we had to ask for more twice during the 1hr we were there (time limit is 1.5hrs, we ate and left quickly). There's no warning either to let you know 5mins left to order, etc. Also saw a giant dead cockroach, it was the size of my thumb and upside down, just on the stairs on the way in, about half way up. Should've seen the sign and left. Garlic was frozen for some reason, not a bad thing, just weird. Food tasted okay, meat dishes were standard, tasted like they looked, nothing special, pork belly was a bit funny, reminded me of diced bacon rather than pork belly, the chicken wings tasted old, and very very fried. Squid also tasted off. Vegetables were paper thin, they were practically transparent, I've never been given vegetables at a BBQ that thin in my life. Also, they do this weird thing where they give you several dishes as an introduction or something at the beginning without you ordering them. Very cheap yes, but not worth it, I definitely...
