I really do like No 1 Malatang in Hurstville. The ingredient options are very good, the ingredient counter next to the cashier has a wide range of options that alternate depending on season and availability, the front ingredient counter facing the food court has pretty similar ingredients year round.

The broth is always clean, myself and my partner enjoy the taste a lot compared to other Malatang.

I usually get the spicy ox tail broth and my partner will get either chicken or mushroom broth.

Tonight I had my spicy ox tail with seafood ingredients, my partner had the chicken broth with various ingredients and glass noodle.

The service has improved since we've been going to this store. Shoutout to the lovely person serving tonight, one of a few Cantonese speakers in the store and didn't grab her name, but if a manager/employee sees this that worked tonight and remembers something about turning off Siri spoken in Cantonese, give the speaker a shout out for me!

The topping sauces are served by the store now which has changed. At first I felt disappointed, but the lady served very generous portions so this is a positive overall. More service and not going small on portions is a plus!

I always opt for chilli sesame, peanut sesame and vinegar for my toppings. Yum!

They also have a Laksa special for $16.80, chicken or fish with malatang ingredients chosen by the store. A great price for the portions and a smart business move to get rid of ingredients that might be moving slowly. You can also add on any soft drink for $2, meaning you can have a huge feed and a soft drink for $18.80, brilliant value in the current economy.

Well done No 1 Malatang Hurstville, you are my Number 1 Malatang shop...

ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING SERVICE AND ATMOSPHERE.. Especially from the owner himself and the girl that is always on the counter. These people firstly look like they hate their lives which they seem to project onto the customers. Usually I accept it considering their food is nearby but never again. The owner ignored me multiple times whilst I tried to ask him for more coriander. Then he looked at me and 2 minutes later replaced it without saying a word. Then again I later tried to get his attention to ask him for my order to be takeaway and he purposefully ignored me walking as I’m saying Hello excuse me multiple times right next to him then he walked into the kitchen. Then he comes out asking me what I wanted to which I replied for takeaway. Then he tells me it costs extra. Even though in my experience with the place they only charge you extra if this is after you eat there. When i told him thats definitely not the case (because you can see on the screen where you pay the container surcharge crossed out when you eat there ) he started talking about him being the owner in a condescending manner whilst smiling. Absolutely atrocious to see. Especially being a regular customer who constantly tolerates their usual attitude. Over 50 cents. When I just paid $40.

Not to mention. The place itself is in very poor hygienic manner. Scribbles on the walls. Rubbish picked up late. Lots of the meat trays are melted and have way too much blood and the rolls of meat are decomposed.

STAY AWAY if you want to preserve your dignity...

Very bad impression for my first time at your shop. I’m agree with the review before that if I could give you Zero I will . I went there to order take away the woman who took the order very rude and poor customer service. First : while I’m thinking should I get classic soup or dry mix your staff yelling to me like I’m idiot and point the finger to the menu.

Second : When I was there no customer waiting for the food as your kitchen is open kitchen I can see no order in the front of me but your staff not even start cooking just keep taking. Then few minutes later they have more customers come like 5 ppl. They all order after me but get the food before me.

Third : when I go to pick up my food the same woman yelling to me again she can ask customers nicely any sauces we need. I asked her can I put my own because I saw the way she pour the sauces the lady before me that she don’t care it’s gonna be salty or spice or not.

Finally I’m not surprised if your sales gonna be decreasing because of your staff do not care about your business and lack of...

This place is the one near McDonalds. It is often crowded even when it is late. As you enter, grab a bowl and then make your way towards a long line of ingredients. Choose wisely as apart from the meat, they are not labelled. This is particularly the case for fish cakes and who knows what's in them. I didn't know which one was which so I went for the 'try them all approach'. I was going fine until one of them had really strong taste to it which was so overwhleming I stopped eating when there was more than half left. The soup was mild despite it's name. It was not 'ma' at all. I didn't get a good sense as to what the sauces were, whether you should put them in, and if so by how many scoops. A little help from the staff would have been nice. Worth trying but I don't think I will be back. Also the price is determined by the weight of your basket.

Delicious spicy soup. Eat as much or as little as you want. Vegetarian option available as well (just pick all the veges mushrooms tofu and noodles). Prices depending how much you grab can range from $12 -$40. Note: It can get very spicy so don't add any more chilli oil at the end when they ask you what condiments you would like to add to your soup. Also would avoid the "balls" as they're not fresh and no way of knowing for sure what's in them. The furnishing /atmosphere / drink options are not the best (it's a very casual place) but the soup is yum and location convenient. Take away available in a special cylinder tupperware container (think they charge additional for this)
