Didn't get the fish I needed for Easter lunch because shop was closed before its posted Easter Saturday closing time. Not happy.
Shop had posted hours until 7pm on Easter Saturday, per a special poster about Easter hours that's been up for days. I arrived at 6:45pm. The shop was dark, the cases were cleared, and staff had their coats on and were on the way out.
I didn't get my fish fillet for my solo Easter Sunday lunch. So, nice quality, but that doesn't mean much if you can't actually buy it. I averaged 5 for quality and 1 for service based on the early closure before specially posted hours and have rated the shop 3. I even went earlier in the week to taste-test their fish by getting a piece of grilled fish, to make sure they'd be a good choice for my Easter meal.
If you're going to go to the trouble to post special holiday week hours, adhere to them -- particularly on a day where people may be buying their holiday food. If you're really not sure when you're going to close, put "til late", which is an awful practice from a service perspective but at least it warns people that they better get in before the shop decides there isn't enough custom to stay open. If you're going to start closing at 6 or 6:30, and might be around until 7 but might not, post your closing as 6 or 6:30. Retail customer service 101: Don't set customer expectations and then not meet them.
Why did I put off my shopping to so late? My old fridg is full of veg, jars of stock, etc. so it's difficult for everything to stay ice cold. I thus wanted to put off the fish purchase to as late as I could. Because they posted that they'd be open til 7, on the Saturday before...

When I went back the second time this happened to ask for a replacement piece of fish, having shown the recent transaction as proof of purchase, I was told to come back the next day to see the manager who claims his shop only sells fresh fish. This was after the staff member personally called the manager to explain the gooey and rotten piece of salmon I had bought that week and had to throw away.
