Visited this little cafe I found via highest rated cafes in Newtown and definitely glad we went! It was really busy but they managed to find a table out the back which was genuinely down like a little alleyway through the back of the cafe. Felt a little dodgy but felt kinda cosy? We were given menus and after about 15? Minutes we thought “do we go up to order or do they come to us?” A little unsure and unclear but at the 16 minute mark, they came to our table and served us and made up for lost time serving the food and drinks, quick as hell. My partner got the Lemonade Scones and I got the Grilled Pancetta. The scones were so fluffy and toasty and the jam was like every berry was picked and mixed for the order, absolutely scrumptious. The pancetta sandwich was probably top 5 things I’ve ever consumed.. it was unreal. Although it was huge, definitely made it more worth the money, every flavour in it was just perfect but I would probably lower the quantity of the neon pink and purple alien cabbage. Everything else was flawless! Coffees weren’t as important in this review but were genuinely delicious as well. Will definitely come back next time I’m in Sydney.

A hipster little joint located at the south end of Newtown with a mish mash of repurposed tables and seating, with a mighty cool artwork in the main wall by the coffee machine. Scotty Nagy, the artist has certainly produced something that fits the space perfectly. An interesting and eclectic menu from Welsh rarebit, to buckwheat pancakes and smoked trout. The Zucchini flower taco were awesome, a small corn soft taco, topped with a garlic confiet cashew cream, cured zucchini, chestnut crumble and red cabbage. $7 each, but we’d recommend getting 2 since they’re quite small. The Divorced Eggs, or Poached eggs, smothered with chimichurri and a roast pepper walnut and ginger puree, toasted pistachios, Meredith farm feta served on brickfields rye and caraway. Strong coriander flavour to it, but a good dish. The cafe uses little Marionette coffee beans, we went for the batch brew which was decent, as well as a chai. There was a fair wait on our visit, but they did a good job keeping us informed of wait time. The man waiting our table was really good at his job.

Honestly, I didn’t expect much, seeing as I love meat and they didn’t have any meat on the menu except bacon/ham, but I was wrong! the divorced eggs were to die for. The other items I ordered were also very good. The only two downfalls of this place was that it took ages for me to be served and I actually had to reach out to someone cause I was standing there for ages with servers walking past me and not acknowledging me being there (they were super busy though) and we were then placed in a spot directly under the sun, but two different groups of people who came after us were asked if they’d like a shady spot because the sun might be annoying for them, we found this to be a bit odd considering we weren’t asked that. Secondly, please cater to those who cannot eat bacon/ham - we would’ve loved to have some beef or chicken on the menu. Other than that, the taste of the meals definately made up for the initial bad interaction and the service after that point was very friendly, so we took it as a one off oversight. Great job guys!

always wanted to visit this place due to its insane review and always looking busy, so this weekend i took the plunge and it did not disappoint. the cafe was really busy (sunday morning) so service was a tad slow, but that is expected so not a complaint. maybe that is just my hungover self being impatient yearning for some mid morning caffeine though. when the coffees did arrive they were nice, personally i prefer a more punchy stronger depth to my drink, but it satisfied. Ordered the chorizo brunch option and it was banging. lovely presentation, on the verge of fine dining -esque. it is to be noted that lots of chorizo was provided, which is good as the price of the dish was verging on the top bracket for king street breakfast places (20$), but comparative to the rest of the dish it was mildly overpowering. 1 poached egg and two sides of cornbread were included, but they mainly played a supporting role and were eaten quickly, leaving me with quite a lot of chorizo at the end and no further accompaniments. this may be due to poor meal planning on my part, but its worth noting. i also would have liked some more hollandaise sauce, as this was provided in a kind of puddle format so got lost, whereas my friends breakfast (the smoked duck) the sauce was in a side jug, offering more a more luscious hollandaise experience. All that aside, the flavours all worked well perfectly and it was a thoroughly enjoyable meal. Also love the fact this place offers a different breakfast experience to the standard aussie smashed avo and poachies on sourdough vibe. Will deffo be returning to sample more of the menu, as it would surely be rude not to try the...

The best cafe in Newtown - and that’s no exaggeration. The coffee is the best you’ll get in king st (and probably most of Sydney depending on your personal taste ofc) I am an espresso drinker so for me getting a perfectly extracted double espresso every time is generally unlikely and I accept this as I’ve chosen the coffee with the least room for error and bean choice etc. Rolling penny is always the same - it’s perfect every time and it dosen’t matter who’s at the brew head the whole team are a different breed. The food is going to need another paragraph so I’ll keep it quick, every option is a well thought out flavour cascade from savoury to sweet, I get the divorced eggs a lot - but I can order anything in the menu blindly and know I’m going to love it. They don’t use regular cheap bacon 🥓, nothing is regular or cheap except the pricing for what you’re getting. Do yourself a favour and become a regular- then you will get the added privilege of getting to know Robin and the team, the coolest most down to earth people that make Newtown - Newtown for me. I’m not crying you are 🥹- love you guys thanks for running this great cafe that makes many people’s mornings and lunchtimes better for you being...
