I recently visited Sidebar, a dive bar located in the city, and I was extremely disappointed with my experience.
To begin with, the atmosphere of the bar was dingy and poorly maintained. The furniture was old and worn, and the decor was unappealing. The bar itself was cluttered and dirty, and it seemed as if the staff didn't care about keeping the place clean. The restrooms were particularly disgusting, with dirty floors and faulty fixtures. It was clear that the management of Sidebar was not prioritizing cleanliness or maintenance.
The drinks at Sidebar were overpriced and of poor quality. I ordered a cocktail and was disappointed to find that it was weak and poorly made. The ingredients were cheap and the presentation was sloppy. The beer selection was also limited and unappealing, with mostly mass-produced options rather than any craft or specialty beers. It was clear that the focus at Sidebar was on making a profit rather than providing good drinks.
But the worst part of my experience at Sidebar was the rude and disrespectful behavior of the staff. On multiple occasions, I witnessed them treating customers with disdain and disrespect. This included rude comments and eye rolling when customers asked for something as simple as a glass of water. The bartenders seemed annoyed and inconvenienced by any requests, and they made it clear that they did not want to be there. As a result, I felt uncomfortable and unwelcome during my time at Sidebar.
To make matters worse, the music selection at Sidebar was terrible. It was mostly played at a volume that was too loud, making it difficult to carry on a conversation. The playlist was also uninspired and repetitive, with a mix of overplayed pop hits and generic electronic dance music. It seemed as if no effort had been put into creating a cohesive or enjoyable atmosphere.
Overall, my experience at Sidebar was extremely disappointing. The dirty and poorly maintained atmosphere, subpar drinks, rude staff, and terrible music selection made for a terrible experience that I will not be repeating. It's a shame because the concept of a fancy dive bar has a lot of potential, but Sidebar fails to deliver on any level. There are so many other bars in the city that offer a better atmosphere, better drinks, and better service at more reasonable prices. Do yourself a favor and steer clear of Sidebar. It's not worth your...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was standing on the upper deck of the ship, the wind in my hair and the city skyline shimmering in the distance as the harbour lights danced on the water. It was supposed to be a perfect evening, music in the air, laughter all around, and the soft hum of the engines below. But in an instant, everything changed. Without warning, a terrible jolt rocked the vessel. As we ran into the bridge the glasses shattered, people stumbled, and a wave of panic rippled through the crowd. The ship began to tilt unnaturally to one side. Water surged in from below, cold, fast, and merciless. Within moments, chaos erupted. Screams cut through the night as passengers scrambled for life jackets and lifeboats. People were slipping, falling, crying out for help. It was like something out of a nightmare, like watching the Titanic unfold in real life, right before my eyes. I clung to the railing, soaked and shaking, watching as the deck I had been dancing on just minutes ago was swallowed by the sea. My heart was pounding in my chest, and the chill of the water was creeping higher by the second. I thought, This is it. But just as the last bit of hope began to slip away, a thundering sound broke through the chaos, the unmistakable roar of a helicopter overhead. Out of the swirling darkness, two figures descended like guardian angels. It was Chris and Ryan, harnesses strapped to their backs, eyes focused, calm in the madness. They lowered themselves with incredible precision, dodging debris and fighting the gusts. One of them grabbed my hand with such steadiness that I could hardly believe what was happening. Chris clipped a harness onto me, shouted something I could barely hear over the wind and the screams, and within seconds I was rising into the sky by Ryan away from the wreckage, away from the icy grip of the harbour. The city lights sparkled below as the ship vanished beneath the waves, taking the nightās joy and terror with it. We soared across the skyline, and soon enough, they brought me back to Sidebar which was dry, safe, and in total disbelief that I was alive. I stumbled inside, dazed and breathless, and was met with a miracle of another kind: a massive, gorgeous cocktail bucket waiting for me like a prize at the end of a wild, impossible journey. It tasted like survival. Like rebirth. Like the best damn cocktail Iād ever had. Ps...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreJosh, the"GM", as he likes to call himself, is a coward and a liar. I simply asked him, "you don't run an honest operation?" After he REFUSED to give me and 2 other guys a free drink card, as PROMISED. (We were a group of 20+ from Bounce hostel, all of whom were guaranteed a free drink if we arrived before 11PM, which we did--some of the group at 10, others at 10:30, and myself at 10:45)
I don't know if ANYONE received the incentive--but decided to hold Side Bar accountable at the least for mine and my 2 friends who had been here for over an hour, on a WILD GOOSE CHASE looking for this guy who was making himself scarce. (When I got here, the bouncer told me to go downstairs and find our group leader--this took some time, naturally, in a packed, dark bar with random black-lights, etc shining in your eyes--when we found her 30 mins later, she said we needed to go back upstairs and talk to the manager. The security told us to wait outside for him. We asked of he was downstairs and they said yes. So instead of standing out in the cold, windy air, I went down and looked for him, then after 15 mins security told me that he had gone upstairs) When I FINALLY found Josh, after I politely approached him and requested our promised drink tickets, he kept ARGUING, saying "you had to be here before 11" and I kept informing him that we were--and WELL ahead of that! He continued to dismiss the facts and gave me a wristband for "$6 drinks before 12", to which I said I'd be happy to use AFTER he honored his word by giving us the free drink. After multiple attempts of trying to explain the situation to him, he just wasn't understanding it, he then dismissed me, and that's when I asked him why he didn't want to run an honest operation. He then said "I'm giving you a 50m card" and told me to leave the property. š±š”š”š”š”š”š”š” I will do EVERYTHING in my power to make sure that this arrogant jerk is removed from anything to do with this bar. If they don't appreciate our patronage, and the thousands of dollars in business that our hostels bring to them, then we will BOYCOTT this dishonest...
