Overall, this Starbucks is nice, but there are a few good and bad things about it worth mentioning:

The atmosphere is great, which is really complimented by the fact that it has two floors, separating the noisier, downstairs part of the store with the quieter, more relaxed upstairs area. Downstairs seems much more social, so the seating is more for groups of friends, but upstairs has a lot of quiet, comfortable, and personal seating arrangements. This is both good and bad, as it can be hard to find a seat, especially during peak times, as downstairs is too busy, and upstairs is filled with people, too. So, it’s recommended that you come at a time when you know you’ll get a seat, or are just grabbing a coffee for takeaway, otherwise you might be stuck trying to find a seat, as the mall that this Starbucks is in doesn’t have much seating either. But, aside from that, getting a window seat can leave you with sunlight directly in your eyes, which isn’t too great! Of course, it’s not that difficult to get a seat, though, and when you do find one, you’ll likely feel very comfortable with the retrofitted style of the cafe, and homely feeling it gives.

The service is generally good as well, and all the staff members are friendly when taking your order. I’ve been multiple times, and they always prepare my order quickly, and I never really have to queue for long either, so that’s also great!

Also, if you’re coming for studying, don’t be afraid of having bad WiFi connection. The WiFi here is great, and perfect for watching university lectures without interruption, or downloading reading material.

So, in general, I would say this is a great Starbucks, but just be aware of the seating...

Today, they closed 1.5hrs earlier than on google. I got 2 coffee frappes and 2 cheesecakes. To save money or whatever, someone at the store has cut all the 4 cup holding cardboard coffee holders in half using a knife or scissors to make them carry only 2. It means the weight can no longer be distributed evenly anymore because they aren't in the shape of the original design which would have. I could tell by looking at it that this was the case and carried it carefully home. After seeing my neighbour in the elevator, she offered to hold my drinks for me while I open my front door but when she took them from me, didn't look well to see that it had been hacked in half by someone at Starbucks for her to understand well that the weight distribution was off so she'd have to hold it differently to normal to avoid incident. She dropped my coffees and spilled them all over my front door then said sorry and told me to go back and ask for new ones as she thought Starbucks would remake them for free. I can't tell what I'm disappointed about most. That Starbucks cutting corners and my neighbour being clumsy wasted my drinks and money and time to go back etc., or that I had to pay for new ones (1yr customer loyalty doesn't count for much because the staff change so frequently none of them would remember me - both my office and home are closest to this store) or that the cheesecakes got smaller or that I was naive enough to believe my neighbour that I might have been looked after. What a disaster. TLDR Version: Haymarket store, stop hacking your cup holders in half, it ruins the integrity of them!!! I had to pay for 4 drinks...

Just feel embarrassed to seek for assistance in this branch… I’ve been ordering my all time favorite coffee for long time the same order where ever I go…

Today, I ordered a coffee in this branch and I specifically says No water on my coffee… only ice.

Iced Americano with 2pumps white mocha and No Water. I know that my order was not correct and i taste it very different, i cant even taste the coffee at all but only water and the white mocha.

The Coffee i had, the ice are floating and when you taste it its totally blunt.

I approached the guy (Asian) who make the coffee I said, does my coffee has water? he said no… and I taste it again and its not really the same taste…

Then I approached again the other barista (Young Curly Asian) and asked if they can replace my coffee the way I want it. To my surprised, i was told the ice melt… thats the ice that melts. since so many people was there and looking, I just decided to go and said thank you… but then this young asian guy made a comment on my way out and said “Shesss” and talk to the guy who made my coffee and smiling…

I maybe this person should learn how to accommodate customer feedback or concern and address is the way should be! Coz to be honest, i was upset and I really want to order the drink again to show them the difference but im just too tired to argue when staffs are not even helpful the way they portrait they’re brand.

I only need a decent coffee and not to teach me how coffee was made as I know my coffee very well… But yea, I throw away the coffee and order to QVB and guess what… they make the coffee perfectly and the...

Today I went to this Starbucks with a friend and we decided to have our drinks in the seating area upstairs. The place had an infestation of mosquitos. The first place we sat down had mosquitos swarming around us and so we had to move to a different corner of the upstairs area room. However, even in this area, mosquitos regularly buzzed past our faces and interrupted us. It made me feel very uncomfortable and we eventually resorted to trying to kill the ones that came close. We killed at least 10 in this spot, but there were clearly plenty more flying around upstairs (especially in the area we were originally seated). I complained to one of the staff members about the problem and showed her the stash of mosquitos that we had killed and left on our table. She didn't seem surprised, but said she would tell her manager about it. It is pretty unacceptable for a hospitality venue in Sydney CBD to be so badly swarming with mosquitos. Management need to do something about it. I can't imagine I'll ever go to that upstairs area again. See my attached photo for evidence.

The location of this Starbucks is nice really as its near Chinatown light rail , and the area is pedestrianised with no cars on George Street. This puts stress levels down. Its housed in a historic building on a corner spot. I have visited many times and it's always busy and moving. Many of the customers use it as a internet cafe of old, so I would not say its a very social (meet someone while you are drinking a coffee kind of place.) Actually I could not get a seat today but that's not a complaint, it means its popular. I was surprised when they asked me my name when I ordered my tall flat white! This is because many of the Starbucks in town neither give eye contact when serving, nor take a name anymore. But here they did and my name was printed out and stuck to my coffee cup. To be honest I find the food kind of standard fair and would prefer fresh scones with jam to a ham and cheese croissant. But the coffee is very good.
