Was really looking forward to trying this place for a special occasion due to the super positive reviews but the actual experience on the day was quite disappointing.
The service was very hit-and-miss, not warm and below what I expected for an intimate setting. My mum was already seated at the restaurant a few minutes before our booked time, yet not even 10 minutes after I received a call asking where I was while I was trying to find parking. Once I arrived at the restaurant I was asked several times for my order even though not all of our party arrived. When we ordered the food on their insistence they asked for drink order and demanded everyone needs to order a drink despite us ordering basically all of the menu. When it came to getting our table cleared we needed to ask a few times and wait quite a long time, and after payment we were given the wrong invoice. If the service was more friendlier all could have been forgiven but sadly it was very impersonal.
In terms of ambiance, the music was too loud and it was difficult to have a conversation at times, and the place was much too dark to the point where I needed my phone flashlight to see what the food was.
Food was good but as other reviewers said, small portioned and a bit too much on the salty side. Drinks were decent but the highballs didn’t come with a stirrer so all of the syrup was left at the bottom of the glass.
If you are after drinks mainly then I would recommend this place as a bar, but since they also insist on ordering food and be a restaurant they need to also consider the dining experience. For now I would recommend going elsewhere for dinner, especially for a...
Read moreBorderline 4.5 stars. Cosy but vibey bistro hidden on the other side of Chatswood. Nice decor and furnishings.
Oden and mussle stew: S, 8/10. $38 + $5 for noodles. soup itself has great seafood flavour with a fair bit of heat which is not advertised oden and other tofu/fish ball toppings were good noodles are a HUGE scam with a tiny bowl for $5. We demanded an extra one which we received but still not worth it. overall, pretty good and well presented.
Soy garlic fried chicken: SS, 9/10. $23 for half. one of the best I've had. Crunchy yet juicy with not too much batter and the amount of glaze good enough glaze itself very well balanced saltiness, sweetiness and garlic flavour would be keen to come back for other flavours
Highballs: SS, 9/10, $12-13 generic Suntory blended whiskey but still very refreshing with nice depth of flavour yuzu was more refreshing with better balance than earl grey which didn't have much tea flavour
Update: Minari pancake: S, 8/10. $26 Decent serving size and very crispy. A little plain without the dried shrimp
Kimchi pork belly hotpot (special): S, 8/10. $39 quite expensive but very flavoursome kimchi and pork belly were...
Read moreSadly, our visit to Sunday Seoul was underwhelming, mainly due to the service or complete lack of it.
From the moment we arrived, there was no warm welcome or greeting. Staff were standing behind the counter and made no effort to acknowledge us or explain how things worked. We eventually figured out on our own that the menu was accessed via a QR code, there was no signage or guidance, and no one came over to explain.
Once seated, the lack of service continued. We weren’t checked on once throughout the meal. We had to get up ourselves just to ask for utensils, and not a single staff member came by to refill water or see how things were going. It genuinely felt like we were invisible.
The food itself was okay, nothing stood out, but it wasn’t bad. However, when paired with the inattentive and disinterested service, the overall experience was disappointing.
This place has potential, but right now, the lack of hospitality makes it hard to recommend. A little more effort from the staff would go a long way in improving the...
