I must say, my recent experience at The Orchard Hotel was nothing short of disappointing. My friend and I decided to stop by for a drink after a long day at work, hoping to unwind and relax. Little did we know that our visit would turn into a frustrating and disheartening ordeal.
To begin with, after having a few drinks at a nearby pub, we thought it would be a good idea to have one last drink at The Orchard Hotel while waiting for our Uber. However, our excitement quickly turned to disbelief when we were met with a rude and judgmental door man. He haughtily declared that we were "far too drunk" to enter the premises. Now, I understand that establishments have their policies, but the way it was conveyed to us lacked any semblance of respect or understanding.
As paying customers, we expected to be treated with basic courtesy, but that was clearly not the case at The Orchard Hotel. Instead of offering any assistance or suggesting an alternative solution, the only option provided was for us to pay for "slots." It was as if they were trying to capitalize on our situation by pushing us to pay for something we had no intention of doing in the first place.
I must say that I found this behavior utterly unprofessional and inappropriate. It left a sour taste in our mouths and made us feel unwelcome and humiliated. The security officer, instead of defusing the situation, verbally attacked and insulted me with demeaning and derogatory language, specifically targeting me as an Asian woman. His words and behavior were both deeply offensive and damaging. Furthermore, he attempted to use his physical presence to intimidate me, creating a threatening and hostile environment that made me fear for my personal safety and well-being.
What was even more troubling was the managerâs lack of intervention. The manager was present during the incident but chose to ignore the situation entirely, effectively condoning the discriminatory actions of both the staff member and the security officer. We ordered burgers and one came out so black it was horrendous. If I was a chef I wouldnât even send it out on a plate. I taped my finger on the bun and it was so crispy my finger could go through it.
I send back the burger and the lovely girl could see it was burnt and apologised. The burger came back out really quickly and when it was back on the table you could see all they had done was heat up another bun and put it on top of the burger. The chicken was still overdone and the base of the burger was completely black.
I had to take it back for a second time to get it fixed. I showed the two lovely bar staff the photo and they could see how badly burnt it was, no one would eat that.
It came back out again and the buns had been fixed but the chicken was still overdone. By this point we were over it so we didnât take it back because the buns were fixed.
The reason I am quite disappointed is that I have worked in hospitality before, and if I saw a dish like that, not only would I offer a refund and apologise but I would bring them a whole new dish. There no was refund or anything else offered for the trouble and waiting time. The second burger was cold by the time the other one was finally fixed. The girls helping me were very lovely however I felt like there was not much done to help fix the situation, and the fact the chef even sent it out is pretty appalling.
