I visited Sushi Izakaya Nara at 17:20 on the 31st of May, 2025. After choosing what I wanted to purchase, I went to pay by card and was told there is a $15 minimum for card payments. There were absolutely no signs or written notices anywhere in the store informing customers of this policy — not at the entrance, on the menu, near the counter, or anywhere else. There was no signage or writing at all.
Because I wasn’t carrying cash and wasn’t aware of any card minimum beforehand, I was forced to double my order just to meet the $15 minimum. To make matters worse, there were people lined up behind me, which added pressure and made the situation very uncomfortable. I was effectively coerced into spending more than I intended simply because the policy was hidden.
This practice is illegal under Australian Consumer Law, specifically Section 18, which prohibits misleading or deceptive conduct. Businesses must clearly disclose any minimum card payment policies before customers commit to a purchase. Failing to do so, as in this case, is a clear breach of the law and unfair to customers.
I will be reporting this incident to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) under the Australian Consumer Law to ensure proper investigation and enforcement.
That said, I want to make it clear that their food is delicious — easily some of the best I’ve tasted from any restaurant. I love their food. But because of this outright illegal practice, they get just 1 star from me. They also have no cutlery to take away and an extremely long wait time for take away even when quiet. Averaging about 30...
Read moreEmailed them on Monday requesting booking for 4. Got no reply. Rung on Wednesday for Friday night. Told max seating time is 1 hour. We had guests drive over an hour from out west to try this place on our recommendation. I requested longer but told all they can do is arrive 30 mins earlier. Food was great.. But what annoyed me was staff came over put the bill on our table and said we had to leave now. After 1 hour No warning no please put your last orders in. Nothing. I requested for we have time for dessert but told no. Then told after they checked with manager... Only if we ordered immediately and ate quickly. We declined. Our bill was close to $300 the fact they couldn't accommodate us for longer and couldn't communicate better will probably be the last time we go here as really left us with a bad experience all round.
I hope they can fix these issues as food is great but attention to...
Read moreFirst thing that you'll noticed here is there's just so much variety of food and drinks on the menu and whole other bunch of specials on the wall. It took me awhile to decide what to order. Eventually I went for the don, takoyaki, sashimi and a spicy salmon poke.
The food was definitely delicious. They were freshly made with generous portion. My only complain here is that the salmon sashimi were a bit too lean (i love them fatty 🤣) and the rice werent fluffy enough. I had difficulties trying to scoop them up with my chopsticks as they'd break apart if i try to ball them up in the bowl.
Oh yea the miso. Oh gosh the miso soup. Its certainly the highlight off my meal. Its was so dizzily good with the right balance of saltiness, tang and sweet savoury. Its really smooth and the disappointment of the rice texture was quickly ammended by how the miso added on a complex, rich...
