The Elephant Bean — Restaurant in Sydney

We were passing through on an early drive and stopped for quick breakfast and coffee. We ordered an almond flat white, chai latte, cheese & tomato toasted croissant and the roast chicken toasted sourdough. The flat white and food was good, unfortunately the chai latte was too strong and intense making it unpleasant to drink. While the staff were pleasant, the cafe fell short massively on hygiene standards. Yes the cafe has a vintage vibe but it was dusty and dirty overall on the shelving around the interior walls and the little stands and the table we sat feeling sticky. The lack of food prep hygiene is the main reason for the low stars. The lady preparing the food did not wear gloves during any of the prep, wiped her nose with the back of her hand multiple times going back to the food prep without washing her hands or sanitising them. She also was eating in between serving patrons and food preparation, licking her fingers multiple times and after each time, again not washing her hands or using hand sanitizer before going back to...

Dropped by for a quick coffee before driving back to Sydney. The three of us were glad that we decided to grab an outside seat in the lovely sunshine and enjoy the relaxed outdoor Sunday morning vibe. Much nicer than grabbing a takeaway to have in the car. The long black coffees were excellent and I don't say that lightly. The service was prompt and very friendly. Next time we are in Katoomba we look forward to sampling their menu. The food that I saw on people's tables looked delicious. And pricing was reasonable. Oh, and we parked in the nearby Woolworths parking lot just behind the shops in the main street. The Elephant Bean is an unassuming little hole in the wall cafe. it doesnt have extensive lists of foods. but what it does serve. it truly does very well. we ordered fruit toast. (with what looked like homemade jam) and the chorizo beans on toast. with our usual coffees. it was cold outside. it was pretty early. but it just hit the spot. well nourished for our trip back...
