I never write reviews but decided that I had to say something about what I saw a couple of weeks ago at The Newtown Hotel. My friends and I were sitting in the beer garden when we saw a tall security guard who's name we found out was Chris, came to make trouble with another group of friends who were minding their own business. They were not even close to being drunk and this guard came over to them and then claimed that ANOTHER security guard had told him that they were showing signs of intoxication. When one of the men asked Chris to point the other guard out, he did so. The man then called the other guard over, who was a short Asian man. He looked extremely confused and obviously had nothing to do with the situation, however, he remained calm and didn't even complain to the guard named Chris about being thrown under the bus for something he didn't even do. The manager was then called and the situation was sorted with the man and his group of friends allowed to stay. To make sure I was correct, I later asked the Asian guard if he told Chris that that group were showing signs of intox, to which he replied no. As someone who has worked in the security industry for almost 30 years, I was disgusted with the guard named Chris. Everyone I spoke to that night who frequents the place, told me that Chris has been close to getting bashed many times only to be saved by other security guards calming the situation down. I also heard that this man is the head guard there which is quite worrying. Myself, my family and everybody I speak to will not be returning back to the Newtown Hotel until that man is removed from there. It's a shame because besides that guard everything else is just great; the food, the people and the entertainment. I hope something can be done about...
Read moreI've been to this pub a couple of times with my partner. Today we both went with my aunt and uncle and my father in law, we were with the family having a couple of beers. From the first moment the waitresses at the bar upstairs were rude. After 3 or 4 beers my boyfriend and my uncle went to order a round and got into an argument about who was paying because obviously we were a family and they both wanted to pay for the drinks, as it’s normal. One of the waitresses told the other waitress not to serve us because we were passed out. They served us our drinks and a minute later a security guy came and kicked us out of the bar. The first thing is that if you think people are drunk and you can't serve them, don't serve them, but don't make them pay for a whole round of 5 drinks and then throw them out and not let them finish their drinks. The second thing is that none of us were drunk, my aunt was drinking soft drinks, we didn't make any noise or bother anyone, we were just having a good time as a family. We will never go back and we will tell all our friends how badly people are treated for no reason...

We get to the pub, have a few beers listen to some music was really nice. Then go out to have a ciggie . While out having a ciggie a woman sitting near us innocently passes us our beers through the open window. All we did was have a sip and put them back . The bouncer went ballistic and threw all of us out . Even the woman who innocently passed them to us . I understand you can’t do it, but there’s no excuse for treating us like that . I’m 44m best friend 72f. We weren’t out to cause trouble and hassle people . It was an innocent mistake that was blown way out of proportion. You want to know why venues In Sydney die. It’s because of bouncers like her people won’t put up with it . Won’t...
