THIS REVIEW IS PURELY FOR FAT BELLY JACKS. Marly is an alrite bar nothing great but inside it lives A hidden gem called Fat belly jacks, and that place deserves all the stars. Had the tenders their last night and the hot chicken burger with blue cheese sauce. This was our second visit, the first time I tried their fried chicken which was also great it’s just that the portion size was a bit small. But all in all this is hands down the best Nashville style burger I’ve had ever. Like this is it. The tenders were bomb, super spicy. Just needed a bit more salt or chicken salt on it. Everything else was perfect. The fries were fresh, hot, seasoned well, and crispy! Fat belly jacks definitely needs it’s own store in Newtown. For real tho. We were super captivated by the food and forgot to take pictures, but I got one of my tenders later just to show how perfect it looked. And a shout out to the chef in the kitchen last night, we were the last customers ordering food and I asked the dude a million questions about the tenders before ordering. He was super helpful 🙌🏼

Marly's beer garden has a "VIVID-like" feel during the night while impressively offering sufficient space for us to mingle - light blue at the very back while standard yellow at entrance. The adjacent indoor bar serves well for wet weather and dims down after late hours. The main bar at the front has a dance floor for those wanting to "kick on" without leaving the venue. Special thanks to Gilly in reaching out to us long ago before ticking Marly off the list after a long-awaited year!

The Marly is always a fun vibe. The crowd is mixed, but in a good mood. No idiots or snobs to be found here. A decent selection of beers on tap. Food is better than your average pub grub, but don't come here looking for a health kick. It's good honest food to go with your beer. We love coming for the Thursday night bingo or even on a Saturday night for a dance. They go until the early morning, which is great.

I would avoid this place like the plague.

I went to this place about 8 or 9 months ago. Unfortunately, they had hired someone who is likely to have put off many patrons from attending.

Although we both didn't know at the time, my best friend had accidentally overdosed on her prescribed medication earlier in the day. I had just finished working a 15 hour shift on two jobs. We were both very tired, however enjoying a quiet Tuesday evening when the night shifts changed and our evening turned to hell. Bare in mind, the pub was very quiet and there were about 9 other patrons in the pub at the time.

The music was cranked up to full blast, and when I asked if it could be turned down this particular staff member said 'she probably wouldn't be able to, but would see what she could do'. She disappeared behind a room and proceeded to crank up the volume even louder. It was obvious she didn't want to be there at all, with the tone and the patronising remarks and looks she gave us.

My friend then had to make a run for the women's bathroom, and she was in there for a good 20 minutes, when I decided to check on her I was harassed by this particular staff member, who took it upon herself to critique my concern for my friend. Instead of being cooperative and helpful, the staff member decided it was appropriate to begin arguing with me at the entrance of the women's toilets about why I was standing at the door. When she thought this was acceptable, I reminded her that we hadn't come in to begin an argument with her or be spoken to so poorly. It was a shocking contrast to the manager who had served us earlier. Unfortunately we made the mistake of not calling for the manager, because this staff member was out of control.

Instead of calling an ambulance, my friend was told to leave the premises who was then sick on the sidewalk. We ended up in a hospital, where she received the proper attention.

I intended to make a formal complaint just days after to discuss the ordeal with their manager, yet no email or call was returned. I still haven't forgotten my nightmare experience at this place.

I will never set foot in that hole again. Customer service duty of care nightmare.

Keep an eye out for a short young lady with short black hair and a piercing through her nose. Like everything else befitting of her description, she has a short temper and is likely to ruin your night, that is if she even still...

Never been put in this situation our entire lives.

We drove specifically from Emu Plains to come and have drinks at this place as we were regulars. Had a bad encounter with a guy in the road that decided to play games with us while we were trying to park to get down to the pub.

The bouncer on the door had encountered what happened. After we arrived to the door, the bouncer and a bartender that always used to serve us decided in a very rude, inappropriate and unprofessional manner to not allow us in, claiming that we look intoxicated and “drunk”.

We tried to explain that this was unprofessional but clearly the bouncer was very bored and was looking for some action.

He claimed that he knew his RSA laws and regulations and that in his “opinion” we are “drunk” and have had too much to drink.

Not to mention that the bouncer was utterly aggressive when mentioning that we don’t know anything about RSA.

We were a group of 5 - usually visiting every Monday or Tuesday as a group of 10 - working in hospitality for 3 years now. Myself as a bar manager and a restaurant manager know clearly because we were “trained” that this was inappropriate behaviour and had nothing to do with the law and RSA regulations. We work till 3 am in morning, we encounter intoxicated people, we deal with rude customers, we clean vomit from floors from drunk customers, and we apply every bit of regulation that is enforced in bars. However we never ever treat people this way. We never ever judge people this way. We never ever speak to people this way.

We have never been put in this disgusting situation in our lives. We will never ever come back visiting this place. Definitely not passing this place on to anyone that we know. Biggest shame and embarrassment to the hotel and to the owners that they have to employ unprofessional people that know nothing about ethics and morals.

( on a side note, i went back to the bouncer to apologise to him for any inconvenience only because we work in the same industry. I wanted to teach him a valuable lesson about judging people. However this will not stop me from reporting him and the bartender....

This is not merely a dissatisfied entry, this is is an account of a horrific incident that I feel I really have no choice other than to share. I think it's vital that the owner of the Marlborough incite a discussion with management regarding the treatment of patrons, because to experience bullying on a night out is awful. The mayhem into which this business is descending is demonstrative of the sort of neglect an establishment experiences when it attracts patrons based on its location, historical value and not its service; slowly the Marlborough is becoming notorious for bouncers who exploit their authority and alienate their patrons, all at the expense of the business thriving.

I pleaded with the bouncers on duty late Wednesday night for some water. I was feeling extremely unwell and just wanted them to help me as nothing else was open. The discourse turned emotional as they began to defend their rights as bouncers to not let me in, calling me intoxicated etc, all which was irrelevant because I was asking them on a human level to please escort me in for some water, then I will leave. I was clearly in a very poor state, but they kept asserting their right to not let me in. As I walked away, they yelled at me, calling me a c*.

I spoke to the manager on duty today, he was entirely uninterested and didn't ask me what had happened. I just left. It is one thing to have an argument with a bouncer, it is another to not observe fundamental levels of human decency. Security cannot be this emotional about discourse with patrons. This yelling was really deranged, I felt unsafe and to have spent so much time and money here and not be helped when I'm feeling so unwell was actually just mean, that's the only word I can think of. The security were mean, mean blokes, and me and the friends I was with will literally boycott this place for the rest of our lives. Please understand this will never affect us again, but this is slowly bringing your business into disrepute, and you should really do...
