I had an absolutely incredible dinner at this dumpling spot in Newtown, and I’m still thinking about it! From the moment we walked in, the vibe was warm, relaxed, and full of that eclectic Newtown charm. This place is an absolute gem—the kind of spot you want to keep to yourself but also can’t help raving about to everyone you know. Let’s start with the food: hands down some of the best dumplings I’ve had in Sydney. Every bite was packed with flavour, perfectly cooked, and beautifully presented. You can tell everything is made fresh—there’s a real attention to detail in both the texture and the seasoning. The variety on the menu is fantastic, with options for everyone, whether you’re into classic pork dumplings, spicy wontons, or delicious vegetarian options. And the portion sizes are generous without being over the top. What really makes the experience extra special is the open kitchen window near the bar—you can actually watch the chef crafting the dumplings by hand. It adds such a cool, authentic touch and really gives you that sense of how much care goes into each dish. It’s like dinner and a show in one. Now for the drinks—impressive to say the least. Whether you’re after a craft beer, a cocktail, or something non-alcoholic, there’s a great selection that complements the food perfectly. Everything felt thoughtfully curated and added to the whole experience. And the cherry on top? The prices are incredibly reasonable, especially for Sydney standards. It’s rare to find a place where you can get such high-quality food and drinks without breaking the bank, and this spot nails it. It’s affordable, delicious, and doesn’t compromise on quality or atmosphere. Whether you’re a local or just passing through Newtown, I can’t recommend this place enough for a lovely, relaxed dinner. Perfect for a casual date night, catch-up with friends, or a solo foodie mission. I’ll definitely be back—probably very soon!

The Drunk Dumpling is hands down one of Sydney’s hidden gems! From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere hits you – it’s vibrant, buzzing, and electric, the kind of energy that makes you want to settle in for the whole night. The drinks are unbelievably cheap (a rare find in Sydney these days), which means you can actually enjoy a few without breaking the bank. Now, the food – absolutely outstanding. The dumplings are the star of the show: fresh, packed with flavour, and served in generous portions that will leave you more than satisfied. Every dish that hits the table feels like incredible value for money. It’s the perfect mix of quality and quantity – something most places rarely get right. Whether you’re here with friends, on a date, or just after a fun night out, Drunk Dumpling nails it on all fronts. Cheap drinks, amazing food, and an atmosphere that’s always alive – what more could you ask for? Highly recommend, and I’ll definitely be back again (and again).

A vibrant little dumpling bar! There were a few positives and negatives about this restaurant. The atmosphere was fun with nostalgic music playing through the night. Pumping with people coming in and out, the restaurant was a little bit too loud. Tables packed into a small space, giving the feeling of sardines. At many points I found myself yelling to talk to my partner across the table. Drinks were very well priced with cocktails costing $10! Drinks didn’t taste very strong making you question if they were full strength otherwise very yummy. We got a mix of dumplings and a noodle dish and found it enjoyable to eat. Nice flavours and tasted fresh. Food came with very little wait. Staff were very on top of all orders and clean up although was hard to tell if they were genuine or trying to push you out the door. I think if they focused on the customer experience rather than a fast roll over time the experience would be heightened. Overall a nice dining experience.

Came here last week with a 9:45 booking. My friend and I were only about 5 minutes late and when we got to the front desk there was a group in front of us about to be seated. It took them a few minutes before they were seated and my friend and I were served. I was told by the lady at the front that we were 10 minutes late and that our table had already been given to someone else. I accepted her response thinking it had been over 10 minutes but I then looked at my phone and it was only 9:54. We then proceeded to wait for about 40 minutes, during this time another group showed up with a 10pm booking. As they were shown to a table I checked my phone and it was 10:09pm, the same amount of time it took for us to be served and deemed “late”. I think this was extremely unfair and they should have at least made some sort of compensation for it. We were finally seated at 10:30 after a waitress had to ask a table multiple times to leave because their 90 minutes was up.

My friend and I ordered a cocktail, hers came out very quickly and mine only came out by the time my friend finished her cocktail and was about to order another one. My food came out before my cocktail and the rest of the food came out about 15 minutes later.

Food was great, but definitely did not make up for the service issues. I also understand that it’s more of a bar setting but there was a large group getting way too carried away with very loud singing and getting up and dancing which ruined the atmosphere for everyone else and they weren’t told to sit and...

Food is lovely, atmosphere ruined by the volume of people in there, but otherwise a beautiful setting. Biggest annoyance: when you book, they tell you you have the table for 90 mins, understood. When you arrive they tell you 90 minutes, understood. Then everything you order gets slung on the table, space or no space, absolutely fine. However, when you're just about done shoving everything in while it's hot and giving yourself a nice bout of indigestion, you're almost made to feel like you're not wanted in there. The welcome lady at the door came over to our table and asked if we were waiting for the bill (it was in her hands) we said no we're not (still had 35 minutes) and she said ok well I'll leave it here anyway and ran off before I could say we actually want more drinks. Anyway, we didn't pay that bill and ordered more drinks then left after those. Just leaves a sour taste in your mouth about the experience. This place is always booked up and we had to book 2 weeks in advance and had really been looking forward to it. After nearly cancelling our booking because we didn't reply quick enough (they texted us at midnight the night before) and said they were going to cancel as they'd had no reply. Ridiculous.

Focus more on the customer experience and you will be raved about even more in your reviews. Don't make people feel like they are being rushed out of there, we don't care about you're walk ins and squeezing in extra people, so long as we are out by your agreed time of 90...
