The Surf Deck — Restaurant in Sydney

This place is unfriendly to asians. As Asian adults, we were simply trying to enjoy a regular lunch here. Initially, we were greeted warmly, seated, and given menus. However, a waiter suddenly demanded to see our IDs. Despite explaining that we weren't planning to drink alcohol and could provide digital IDs, he insisted on physical ones. We felt uncomfortable, especially since there was no prior indication that IDs were required, and this is not a pub but a regular restaurant. Furthermore, we were the only ones singled out for ID checks, leading us to believe this was a racist action. We finally were asked to leave if we were unable to show our Physical ID. It was a very unpleasant experience, and I caution other Asians to think twice...

I have a hiking group that “hikes to the bar), and my booking was a large one… yet people cancel-swap-change like you wouldn’t believe. Let’s be honest, I was a pain. And Merivale is a big, big group. Yet the team treated me like they were from a small-family owned restaurant. GREAT food – perfect Italian pizza. An amazing table on the sand @ Surf Deck. Amazing summer holiday feast ! You become more and more impressed when you walk into this small bar/ restaurant. It is located right by the beach and view was amazing. Foods were wonderful (Magarita pizza was the best I had for a long time, and Pork Taco was alright though a little fatty). The smiling and gracious service by the waiters made the evening happier. Surprise to see a live music band in such a small joint- the reggae band was fantastic and it was pity it stopped at early hours. We shall definitely come back for more...
