On my suggestion, my daughter took her family, in-laws and my husband and I for lunch on Father's Day. We arrived at 1230, and approximately 15 minutes later went to buy our food. Some people wanted fish and chips from the menu....none left(!!). Most of us had hamburgers which were average to say the least. The 2 children really enjoyed their chicken and chips. Then one of the four dessert options was gone and I had to ask a staff member to clear our table. This didn't happen so we moved the dirty dishes to the next table ourselves,. The restaurant wasn't that busy and there seemed to be plenty of staff. The waitress who brought our desserts had a real attitude . When I complained to the young man in charge I was told they had been busy. When I suggested that we were there at lunchtime and not mid afternoon and I thought it was strange to have run out of fish and chips so early, he told me that they had had a busy day on the day before!! One of our group asked for a cappuccino and was told they didn't do that sort of coffee. Eventually the man in charge came and offered us a free coffee!!! My main complaint is that it was Father's Day and I had seen a poster advertising Father's Day lunch and we had gone there to have a family outing. It was disappointing to...
Read moreI'm torn about this place. We attended on a Friday night and sat in an indoor carpeted area with a view to West Street.
In the same vicinity, and within 10 metres of the kitchen, was a family group with a canine (not being an assistance canine). The Companions Animal Act (NSW) has provisions for dogs in outside eating areas yet no provision for dogs in an indoor eating area.
We alerted bar staff to the presence of the dog. Bar staff alerted security. To the credit of security, the family group was approached and they and dog were removed.
And then, we enjoyed one of the finest pub meals that we had ever had, in a pleasant setting, at the right noise level, and with the joy that my partner’s dietary preference was perfectly met.

Read moreAll the staff at the Union are always friendly and helpful. Drinks are well priced. My only gripe, is the Schnitzel. (Schnitzel is an Australian Icon). At the Union you deep fry your schnitzel which dries out the chicken. Extra crunchy outside, but dry inside. In these troubled 'Virus' times, with much smaller patronage due to social distancing, maybe the kitchen could try to cook schnitzels in a fry pan. You don't need to aim for the best Schnitzel in Australia, however, it would be good to at least have the best Schnitzel in your local area. and currently, you're way off. I understand, its quick and easy to deep fry. (Substitute the word easy for lazy). I haven't mentioned that i've had the schnitzel when they have also just cooked Battered fish. I don't need to let you know about the fishy tinge the schnitzel then takes on. So overall, a very good local pub, great service, good drinks and food. Just, lets try to improve the schnitzels...
