I used to go to Cafe Eighty Ate a lot, almost every other weekend, so the food is not the issue however on June 4 2017, I went to the cafe for my partner's 30th bday brunch with our daughter. I ordered the shakshuka and when it arrived the waitress didn't put it on the table properly and it fell and burned my legs badly (I had shorts on). I lived close so I ran home out of shock and panic, as the waitress wouldn't talk and didn't know what to do. I stayed in the shower for a while and walked back to the cafe. As I got back there were boils all over my leg and another patron told me to go to the hospital. I did and ended up with 2nd degree burns after a whole day in emergency.
The next day I called and left a message. It took many calls and after 5 months I got a call back and offered one free meal. I did go back but the whole place was very awkward to me and I left pretty sad. I thought it was a very poor response considering what happened.
I'm not one for complaining or posting like this but as I sit here in lockdown with my permanently scarred leg, I think of Cafe Eighty Ate and recommend once you open up table service again to be super careful and train your staff what to do in emergencies - as my experience was extremely poor and traumatising.
Take care and be safe everyone during...
Read moreI attended with a friend who visits regularly and enjoys the food and coffee here. I was disappointed the day I visited. Apparently the staff were not the regular staff and management. I ordered a chicken burger and asked twice about the burger bun if it contained dairy and to exclude the cheese slice. The burger came and when it arrived I asked “does this contain dairy?” The waitress said she will find out, she returned and said it did and apologised. I also stated the chip basket had been half consumed (jokingly) as it was quite empty. She returned with a bowl of chips while I waited for my burger. The burger then was made on Turkish bread and she mentioned the cook removed the cheese and mayonnaise as they too contained dairy. Instead it was replaced with very hot chilli paste. Mayonnaise should not be containing dairy, so not sure if the product they buy has it or the staff are incompetent with ingredients....and who said I even wanted or liked hot chilli! I scraped off the chilli and consumed my meal. Though I won’t be returning here for a meal...
