Update October 2025 1/5* Despite the rude staff treatment the first time we visited, we returned again because we liked the cocktails a lot. We brought two friends along and while my boyfriend checked in the back for a table, the rest of us ended up sitting down in the front section. Our friend hasn't been to the bar before and asked one of the girls that work there, if we could order. I didn't get a chance to 'warn' her about the staff's attitude and she promptly got attacked with a super aggressive response lol. We stayed for the drink we wanted to show them and decided to not return after the second time receiving this treatment. Pretty sad because drinks are great but doesn't outweigh the staff's attitude. Since this time around, it was a different girl, it seems to be the culture of this place. Such a shame but there are plenty of great bars in Newtown with welcoming staff and decent drinks.
First review: We stopped by for a cocktail last Sunday. The ambience of the bar is nice. It's cozy with a DJ at the entry who very much enjoyed their set and we could tell. It was vibey and fun to have music in the background without over powering the atmosphere and having to yell at each other. We chose cocktail No 2 & 3 and they were quite nice. However, I do have a suggestion regarding the service. When we arrived we waited at the sign that says "Wait to be seated". We got seated promptly but weren't sure whether the order will be taken at the table or not. So after a while my partner went to the bar to check. The girl that seated us was a bit irriated by the question and responded with "Yes!?" as if we should be aware of it. We haven't been to the venue before and though it's common in many bars to place your order at the bar, we were a bit thrown off by the sign. It would be nice if that would have been quickly mentioned when we got seated as there are also many bars that provide...
Read moreAs a vegan, Uncanny Bar Newtown is hands down one of my favorite spots! Their vegan options are amazing—flavorful, creative, and definitely not an afterthought. When it comes to a tapas menu, I’ve NEVER had so many delicious vegan options.
They need to be known for their food. Not just their cocktails! The baked spiced cauliflower is perfectly seasoned, and the vegan potatoes are crispy and delicious. I’m obsessed with the sesame falafel and the baked eggplant with pearl couscous—ALL dishes had us melllting.
Yes yes, the cocktails are just as impressive. The Julio Richter (tequila-based) is my go to drink.
I also loved to hear that they have vegan options for EVERYTHING that would usually have egg whites... mad flex. 💪
Our non vegan friends loved their options too - so it was nice to know we were all happy.
Whether you're going for drinks or a tapas meal, Uncanny Bar Newtown is a vibbbeee.
I’ll totally book their function space for my next event. I’m that impressed I want to share this space with everyone.
Uncanny is a hidden gem. Thanks team for the plentiful of - GREAT - vegan...
Read moreI chose to have my birthday function at Uncanny and I am so glad I did! The lovely Uncanny team allowed me to have my group of 20 friends in the back courtyard area which was perfect. It was private and breezy on a hot night. The venue itself is charming and so unique. The staff were very attentive and kind, constantly checking in that I was enjoying my birthday, bringing out the pre-paid platters, water, and delivering any cocktails to us. The food itself was so tasty and unique, not just your typical cheese, bread and dips platters. There is a great array of drinks to choose from, from the original cocktails, the classics, mixed drinks and wines… the bartenders know their stuff! Everything about Uncanny is special, welcoming, vibrant and warm! I’ll definitely be back and recommend it...
