I've never felt the need to post a review for bad service. Tbh there has never even been a time that I've asked for my money back. I personally know how hard a customer service job can be and also how entitled some customers can be, so I do my best to understand that mistakes happen. However today I unfortunately felt obligated to do both those things based on the behaviour of a waitress at this cafe. I bought a soy chai latte to take away. When I tasted it, I was already down the street, and it didnt taste like like what I ordered. When i smelled it, it definitely smelled like coffee. Usually I would just keep going, and endure a wrong order if I was in a rush or far from the place I bought it, because there are more important things but I cant drink coffee due to an interaction with medication I take, and really just wanted that chai. So went back and asked if it was a soy chai latte, one woman said it wasn't and then told the original waitress that she put down the wrong thing. She then just started laughing, whilst the barista attempted to make me a chai and apologized, this waitress just kept laughing and laughing, I was so confused and stunned that she found it hilarious, right in front of me and didnt even try to take responsibility for her very small mistake that I knew was just that, a very insignificant mistake. She walked around, whilst still laughing for a while and then when I just couldnt hold back, I said " it's actually not funny" and she then just smiled and laughed right in my.face which prompted me to just ask for my money back. I'm so bothered, not because my order was wrong but because of the extremely rude behaviour of this woman. I hope she reads this and can learn how she came across, and that by doing that in front of many other customers isnt really great for business. Anyway, not going back there again. Anybody that likes people laughing in their face, I...
Read moreI visited during the Christmas break and, unfortunately, all I got was a really poor service. We waited a while for our orders to be taken, then almost an hour for our food. When we finally got our food, they brought the wrong dish to my friend and mine was missing one item (avo, which was not an addition but part of the dish as per the menu). When we brought up about the wrong dish, their response was that they will not charge us for it. However, my friend wanted her original order (because she didn’t like the dish she had been given) and, when we requested a change, they said it would be up to one hour for a new order because there was backlog in the kitchen. We had to bring it up with the manager and convince them to take the wrong dish back and prioritise my friend’s order. You would think that this is common sense and best practice in hospitality but we had to actually do some convincing. I also asked for my missing avo to be brought at the same time as my friend’s correct dish, and that never happened. They ended up bringing the right dish for my friend quite quickly this time although they didn’t sound very apologetic. We were charged for everything as if nothing had happened.
The food is also below average. The menu is extensive with plenty of vegan options which is great but quality is not there. Perhaps this is the reason why it’s quite cheap.
All in all, probably one of the worst cafe experiences I have had in months. I take it they were busy and probably understaffed during an odd Christmas break impacted by COVID so mistakes and longer waits can happen. However, the poor handling of the mistake is not really what I would expect from a...
Read moreNot a bad location really, close to public transport and that's all that needs to be said about location; really. Upon arrival greeted in a pleasant and friendly manner, more than I can say when I walk in the front door to the missus after this breakfast with my 10/10 haloumi stack on my breath. Pretty good coffee, actually really good but couldn't avoid the inevitable confusion surrounding in the two words "regular" and "normal". Once the coffee arrived it was at the perfect temperature, somewhere between dry ice and McDonalds coffee lava. The lady taking our order seems to have quite the thing for one of the boys, and as per usual he is getting more attention from the opposite sex and as such if he wrote this review it may be a little better and to be frankly honest im bitter about this. The price is reasonable for the location, but in saying that Newtown might as well have its own currency. Considering everyone around this area looks like they have at most three t-shirts, a greyhound and $20 to their name I'm surprised at the expensive nature of the area. But not Newtown Cafe; very reasonable. Four outta five coffee beans...
