Visited Golden Lotus last week after hearing a raving review from my sister. I was definitely not disappointed. The menu heavily consists of mock meat, however there are also veg and tofu options and certain items that cater to those with specific allergies like gluten and I believe soy as well. I decided to order the duck pancakes for my appetizer, followed by the fried fish with salt and chilli. The pancakes were a delight, especially after coming back from China where I watched my family eat the real thing. Being vegan, you don't usually get to eat that kind of stuff or those kinds of flavours, but at Golden Lotus they aim to give you that in the most ethical way possible and I believe they certainly achieve it. The 'fish' was sensational, well fried and with all the good parts flavour-wise of eating real fish, minus the fishy ocean taste and smell that is usually quite off putting. To top off the meal, I enjoyed a soy fried ice cream, an Asian dessert I thought I'd never get to have again since becoming vegan but there it was! The cake crumb added a buttery richness that greatly complemented the ice cream. I also tasted the satay chicken and fried banana with ice cream that my friend ordered. The satay was tasty however the chicken would not be what you would think it would be aesthetically or texturally. The fried banana was a bit of a disappointment because it was drowned in the melted ice cream from the moment it arrived and had lost its crunch. Overall, my meal was excellent and I would definitely recommend it to others, vegan or not. Keep in mind that the place itself is not huge, so try to get in early, especially if you want the fried ice cream which is...

respectfully, i'm not a vegetarians nor vegan but boy do i have news for you.
Ambiance and service was a tenner, needless to say
I ordered Vegan Roasted Duck Noodles and i can't even lie, it lowkey taste better than actual ducks cus it's basically the same thing except without the duck taste, iykyk, sometimes ducks be tasting too.... duck. I don't know what they've put in the broth but it literally tastes like crack!!'it's so good that my friend who ordered Tofu Pho had to steal from me. My soup had bamboo shoots and all sort of bean curds on there. I personally loved it but if u don't like the stinky ish fragrant of bamboo shoots then i definitely do not recommend.
Speaking of which, my pregnant friend who loves mild flavours loved her Tofu Pho. HOWEVERRRRE if you're a slow eater i'd definitely wouldn't order it, for some reason their vermicelli was really thirsty and absorbed all the soup quickly before even she can finishes.
For drinks we had young coconut water(again iykyk) and viet coffee. the coconut water even included the meat in it and u can literally taste the freshness. the coffee came with coconut milk- which surprisingly is probably the best combo i've had cus it didn't even curd up like it would when i make them at home. drinks were 10/10 tooooo
I would definitely come back again!! this place is too good to be missed. Not to mention it's literally vegan, not even seafood so pretty much halal suitable💃💃(owner is buddhist though, come at ur...
Read moreMy wife is vegan and I like to join her when she wants to eat at vegan only places. Most places are pretty boring and gimmicky, especially around Newtown where it seems people just give 5 stars because they're excited that another vegan restaurant has opened, even if it's really bad (and there's plenty of bad ones...). But Golden Lotus is fantastic! Easily on par, if not better than most Asian restaurants I've been to! I now make it a habit to go there often and try something new each time. Personally, I don't like the whole fake meat thing, plus it generally contains gluten, which I'm allergic to, so I stick with tofu dishes instead. They're not bad, it's just that if you're going to quit meat, then why bother with fake meat? Bothers me... Real vegan food doesn't need to contain fake meat. Real vegan food is just beautifully prepared plants with outstanding flavours, and there is plenty of that going around. The fake meat thing is a gimmick, and generally way over priced. I'll have real vegetables thanks.
I'm looking forward to coming back tonight! I wonder what...
