In Sydney for a few days and was craving Cantonese lobster and found Wan’s. Since we were coming from the Opera House post show, wanted something to fit the occasion and this didn’t disappoint. We initially tried Mr Wong’s given proximity to the Quay but this was worth the short uber. Lobster toast was delicious and wasn’t oily, and duck pancakes (not pictured) were a great appetizer to start. Lobster was the star, and we opted for the XO style. Subtly spicy, we later learned it’s an adaptation of a family recipe using higher end ingredients. Had to stop the staff from taking away the sauce to save to mix with my rice! Chef/owner dropped by to chat and part of that 2nd generation of family restauranteurs looking to put their own stamp on the classics in a more higher end environment. Restaurant is only 3 months young, so imagine this place being hard to book soon! Shout out to the bar team for whipping up some great cocktails - Negroni that wasn’t too sweet and a clover club based on requested flavors. If you need a desert, mango panna cotta is the way to go.

Came to the Cantonese restaurant on weekday night, a bit busy. But surprisingly it came to me as a western style⋯⋯wine and dine. The server recommended us the lobster toast⋯⋯crispy but not oily, peking duck with pancakes, wagyu beef short ribs MB9+, seasonal chinese greens and typhoon shelter seafood fried rice⋯⋯in a hot pot. The meal was delivered to our table one by one the tastes were excellent. Personally think it most like “Hong Kong style”Tastes were not too strong and can be enjoyed with a glass or two! The price of meal are similar to that in Chinatown top-end restaurants but still reasonable with its higher standards in comparison. Overall we enjoyed the meal and service was on point. Didn’t get to try the live seafood yet. Average $80 per person.

From the moment we walked in we felt welcome. Amy was delightful attentive and highly professional. She guided us with our menu choices. The boys started with Lobster toast and Prawn wontons which they both raved about. The Duck Sang Choi Bow was full of flavour and a very generous serve. Mains were allspice claypot duck, Kung pao chicken , Glacier 51 Toothfish with shallots and ginger, Typhoon crab fried rice and Asian greens. Every dish was well executed and full of flavour and presentation was perfect. We trialled this restaurant to be our new family night venue and we were not disappointed! We will definitely be back. Congratulations to the team for being 5 star in everything you do.

We love Chinese food but rarely have it because of the lack of local options (that’s a 10 minute walk in my book). Until now. The food at Wan’s was outstanding. Every single dish, from the lobster toasts (yum), followed by duck pancakes, 3 cup chicken, prawn fried rice and stir fried vegies. Cooked to perfection, with flavours that reminded me of my first experience of authentic Chinese food, introduced to me by a HK Chinese friend in the 1980s. The interior also gave a sense of nostalgia, with the wood panelling, fluted glass marble table tops. Service was very attentive and friendly. The menu is a ‘greatest hits’, easy to comprehend, no overload of choices. It will change seasonally I believe. The wine list is compact but had options for all tastes and I thought our Pino Gris was good value. At the conclusion the owner Steven came to see what we thought, and we ended up reminiscing about the ‘first’ of the 1980s wave of Chinese restaurants to arrive in Sydney. We will be back and highly recommend this restaurant. Long may...

Wan’s Cantonese delivers a fantastic dining experience with dishes that are both flavorful and beautifully prepared. The menu showcases a range of Cantonese classics done exceptionally well.

Standouts include the comforting crabmeat and corn soup, crispy Peking duck pancakes, perfectly balanced sweet and sour pork, salt and pepper calamari with just the right crunch, and fragrant BBQ pork fried rice. Each dish is generous, delicious, and satisfying.

The staff are warm, friendly, and attentive, ensuring guests feel welcome and well looked after throughout their meal.

With its stylish and refined setting, the restaurant strikes the right balance between upscale sophistication and relaxed dining, making it ideal for both celebrations and casual outings.

Overall, Wan’s Cantonese is highly recommended for anyone who appreciates authentic flavours served with care in a polished...
