Zia Kitchen — Restaurant in Sydney

I had high hopes of trying this place out, since it was in the local area and a few people had told me it was great.

To say the least, it wasn’t an overall great experience.

The cafe is located in an area where parking is a breeze to locate. My party sat outside in the courtyard area, where our drinks came promptly. However, after the drinks were served, it took 38 minutes for our food to arrive, after a nudge at 32-33 minutes to ask where our food was. At this point, we were hungry and waiting. They forgot the salmon add on to one of the dishes, and our fries were unfortunately undercooked, with sauce in plastic containers. For a brunch place, I would have expected something more elevated to have the sauce kept in like ceramic or a jar. They were also undertaking renovations in the courtyard, where tradesmen could be seen doing work in the bird enclosure, with noise instantly killing the outdoor ambience.

My latte was decent and was very warm, and even when the food arrived. I was recommended the french toast and was advised it was popular. I felt the meal wasn’t a wowing factor and tasted average, with a cream overload in between bread. As well, the speciality drinks that we wanted to order were not available.

Zia is a gem and highly recommend you visit. Beautiful food (the peri peri chicken burger is fantastic), lovely coffee and helpful waitress team. Wonderful atmosphere here, especially outside in the shaded area at the back. There are little birds to watch, so cute and keep the kids entertained. Lovely decorations and plenty of green space, you feel relaxed here. I love the western/ranch bathroom!Oh and the smoothies, juices and drinks are all lovely. The burgers are not so big that they fall apart as you eat. Perfect sized portions and just enough to fill you up! The wagyu meals are large and super tasty and the salads are fresh and yummy. Such great value for the quality of the food. The staff accidentally mixed up a dish, but they were so polite about it (multiple staff apologised many times) and in about 10minutes they served the correct meal. That's fine by me, we all make mistakes and the waiters were serving during the busiest period for lunch. This place can get a tad busy, so book ahead or prepare to wait a bit. I visited this place when it first opened and wasn't impressed with the vegetarian options they had (this was a few years ago and nothing's changed). Recently, we went to get something to eat (not my choice to go) and the service was just bad.

The lady who served me the first time I was there and then now, was still working there and she STILL has had no improvement in customer service skills. It took her about 10 minutes to come and serve us (it was 2:30pm and basically empty), she put in our order wrong, forgot my drink which I waited 30 mins for as I had to remind another employee, served another table that came in after us, charged us a drink which we didn't order (lucky we saw it on our receipt and got a refund) and the food was just mediocre.

The vibe there is pretty average and not innovative, nothing to write home about - everyone seems stressed or as if they have no idea what they're doing. The employees also seem uptight and not friendly at all - maybe crack a smile?
