The food is great - cannot fault it one bit. We're regular customers but to be honest we’re quite over how rigid they are with bookings, to the point where they make you feel uncomfortable. An example is, ask you to leave even after you’ve just spent almost $500. They don’t attempt to shuffle tables around in order to accommodate if someone wants to stay slightly longer. You get 2 messages confirming your attendance, then they call you as well, as you arrive they tell you it’s a 2 hr limit, and then 15 mins prior to the end of booking they tell your time is up soon. We were asked to leave even though we wanted the desert menu, their excuse was “we’re fully booked out and people waiting” and we turned around and counted 5 tables that were free and empty. I appreciate that they were all booked but naturally people arrive late and things can be shuffled. After telling them we were all unhappy and felt rushed and kicking us out they then suggested they could see if they could shuffle tables. Too late. Generally we have found that bookings and the logistics around that are always a hassle with this place - makes the whole experience a lot less enjoyable. Not the friendliest staff either, just kind of doing their job and don’t seem happy...

Second review- Al Carte

Visited Zushi on a quiet mid week for dinner recently. It once again exceeded expectations and delivered a great meal. The service was excellent, and we were well look after.

The great thing about Zushi is the seasonal menu specials, which make every visit a little different. We enjoy coming back again and again. Highlight on this visited was the charcoal Murray cod, it was perfectly cooked, nice crunch on the skin and an amazing sauce to cut the richness of the fish. I’m a HUGE fan of hibachi cooked fish. Other notable dishes include the tuna tartlet, which was a nice little flavour bomb. The sashimi special of Kingfish with a sesame based sauce was also excellent. The sashimi and sushi was extremely fish and delicious.

Enjoyed my night thoroughly and look forward to dinning again soon.

First review - Omakase Recently visited Zushi with my partner to celebrate my birthday. We decided to do the omakase set menu, comprising of 20 courses prepared by chef Han. This was my first omakase experience, and was honestly fantastic. All the seafood and wagyu was fresh, tender and very tasty. Chef Han was very friendly and informative about the dishes he prepared. Overall highly recommend...

One of the best and great value set menus I’ve had in Sydney lately! Zushi in Surry Hills is truly a gem for Japanese food lovers who appreciate fresh flavours, a beautiful outdoor area and a thoughtfully curated menu with 8 items for only $79pp 🤑

Here’s what the set includes:

🥢 Oysters (we included for an extra +$6 ea) – Japanese vinaigrette, salmon roe, chives 🥢 Sashimi tacos – salmon, avo, yuzu gel, flying fish roe, tamari sesame oil, wonton cracker 🥢 Chef’s selection of sashimi 🥢 Honey prawns – caramelised, crispy, just divine 🥢 Goma eggplant – miso & sesame eggplant tempura 🥢 Miso salmon – oven roasted NZ Ora King salmon, yuzu miso glaze, crispy quinoa 🥢 Teriyaki duck – marinated in tamari soy & Asian spices, with pumpkin purée 🥢 Crispy potatoes – twice cooked with yuzu sour cream 🥢 Steamed rice

You can also add dessert for +$12, but honestly, we were so full we couldn’t move.

Everything was beyond fresh and delicious — my top picks were the sashimi tacos, the miso salmon and the duck. Pure perfection. And a big shoutout to the lovely team at Zushi who made the experience even better.

If you’re after a set menu that delivers on both taste and value,...

Pretty good food but will probably say it doesn’t seem to justify the asking price but if you’re down for spending, it’s alright. Big fan of the cauliflower as the texture was great and tasted great too. Probably over ordered on the sashimi omakase as it was just us two and it just got to the point where everything just tasted like the same fish but in saying this, there are definitely better quality fish elsewhere for their asking price. It was a shame we couldn’t have the steak at the same time as the fish as we would’ve liked to have broken the palate but the table size prevented this. The drinks were pretty basic but were alright. The steak was pretty good as it was cooked to allow for a nice juicy texture but we were too full to properly enjoy it. The restaurant itself is nice and spacious, and the service was decent. The male waiter was a bit unconfident with explaining the omakase platter but named everything. Email communication was also great as they replied promptly when messaged.
